Used pH meter until I got the GH drops. Never went back to the meter.

I use the GH drops too, never owned a PH meter. I used to be able to get the 8oz bottles of the GH drops but I can't find them anymore. Anyone have a source for the big bottles?

My Apera is dead nuts accurate every time. I calibrate it about once a month. If you don't want to spend the money for a good Apera or Bluelabs I would just stick to strips or drops. They aren't as precise, but they won't deceive you like the crappy cheap meters will.

My Apera is dead on accurate as well just need store the probecorrectly in some KCI solution. Waterproof is a must.

I use a Sera brand PH test kit as a backup to my meter, it's far more accurate than the GH kit, though it won't last as long-glass test tube and sharper colors. The cheap PH test pens are junk, but the cheap tds meters can be accurate. I have one that's dead on and two that are 100 ppm off-but the thing is, you could probably grow a crop just fine with any of the three because they are all consistent. Bluelabs pens are great for either ph or TDS, or if you want something that works at a lesser price point, try Apera for ph and HM for TDS. My cheap tds pen that is accurate is an ispring.

That's exactly why I prefer the strips. That, and the fact that I'm partially color-blind makes the drops tricky.

How comes apera has mixed reviews? It almost seems the cheap ones can sometimes be just as good. I really dont get why all these ph and tds meter have mixed reviews.

Better getting 2 cheap meters of any kind than one mid priced like a bluelab and expecting it to be bulletproof.
You can always check them against each other and if one goes out of whack you'll catch it before it causes any issues.
Getting one more expensive one like a bluelab and having a false sense of security can land you in the shit.

I've just had a bluelab ec truncheon go to shit on me a few weeks ago and didn't know until I made a LIter of seedling feed and thought the amount I was putting in should be changing the EC more than it was. I checked and yea, the bluelab was reading only half the strength the feed actually was. I've only had it about 9 months. Make sure you check them regularly
