Changing to LED, Optic 8+ questions

Hello fellow growers

I used to grow 600w HPS in a 4x4 tent.
Even with my best effort: growing in winter, lights on at night, air cooled hood, improve air circulation etc... I used to get temps that are higher than most growers at around 28C.
As I don't have my old light setup anymore, I'm considering switching to LED. The Optic 8+ especially caught my interest.

I just have a few questions:

1) Heat issue - What temp can I expect from 550w (actual draw) LED, when I get 28C from an air cooled HPS?

2) Any other LED recommendations for a 4x4 tent? Any plug n play LEDs that are cheaper but compare to Optic 8's quality?

Thanks in advance.

One thing about running under LED is you actually require warmer temperatures to get the leaf surface temps you need for optimal growth. HPS has a lot of IR and LED has none. So instead of trying to be at say 79F you are aiming for 84-86F.

That light should make roughly half the heat of a 1kW HPS due to the lack of IR.

No u cannot beat the quality of optic they are the leader in led tech one can argue but the specs speak for themselves I have a slim 600 h and a 4xl in flower tent and 2 slim 1xl and a optic 2 in veg/auto tent, of course there are much cheaper lights but if u want the best like me ur heads in the right place

Just got an optic 150 Veg last week and loving the light. The plants really have responded. This was a tester just to see how the light did and Now I wish I had got the 300 veg light. Gonna have to order another 150 vegto cover the rest of veg area. Optics gets a lot of hate here in the forums but it’s top of the line quality. Thinking I’m gonna try the slim 650 next round of flower. It’s either that or the hlg 650 Scorpion Diablo.

I hear you they get a lot of hate from people that never owned one u know how people are
I don't mean to hate on the light at all, I'm sure it grows great plants. That being said, the Optic 8 is overpriced old tech just like Blackdog. Passively cooled lights have a much lower rate of failure. I'm not sure why companies think it's a good idea to enclose the drivers and rely on fans to cool everything. If your fans fail then you're screwed. There is a reason quality ballasts, drivers, and LED's are passively cooled using heatsinks.

You are much better off getting some COB's, QB 96's or Samsung strips which will be half the cost. If you do go with Optic, at least go with the Slim which utilizes strips of LM301H diodes.

The optic 8 isn’t something I’d want but the optic slim 650 seems like a seriously bad ass light. My optic 150 veg is passively cooled so that’s good. The slim 650 has my eye right now. Gonna be replacing my hps before long. Probably sticking with optics due to all the hate they get. Lol. Make them cringe every time I post a pic of garden. I’ll make sure to get the optic fixtures in all of their glory in every pic i post. According to specs and par tests for slim 600-650, it’s every bit as good as Gavita and blows past growers choice, timber, etc

Yeah but Blackdog is WAAAYYYYYYYY overpriced and they don't offer a 10-Year Warranty like Optic does, and they honor it. I had a driver fail in my old 8+ that I had for almost 5-years and they sent me the new 8+ NextGen, no questions asked, and I was able to repair my old one and keep it as well. So, that technically got me 2 at 50% off.

i’m using a kind led 1000w says it has ir? would you think this counts to needing higher temps ? thanks

check your lease temps
With a IR thermometer. That’s the only way to see if the IR chips on the light do anything.
My buddy has cheap leds that claim to have Uv and IR built in. His leaf temp is 2-4F cooler then ambient air temp. Just like my cobs is have.

so I’m currently running two optic 8+ in a 5x9 and not really having any heat issues, I can’t help with question 2 as I haven’t seen another light of this quality. However there customer service is the biggest joke. I ordered mine damn near 2 months ago and still haven’t received my whole order. However the light is second to none thus far so it’s a sacrifice. Ladies love them and they haven’t been turned up over halfway yet

I’m considering ordering optic slim 650 from a different seller and not from the optic website since I hear so many issues with late shipping and no correspondence. I got my optic 150 veg lights from optic a few months back in less than a week after ordering but not sure if I want to take same chance with a $1300 light. I’ve emailed optic several times over the last few months about the warranty and no response
