The Senate is voting on the trial's constitutional validity
The six Republican senators who voted it is are:

  • Bill Cassidy
  • Susan Collins
  • Lisa Murkowski
  • Mitt Romney
  • Ben Sasse
  • Pat Toomey
Trump was giving out medals willy nilly, I think these six deserve one for upholding the Constitution. Passed 56-44.

As much as CNN regurgitates stuff at times, when the serious stuf is happening they are worth checking in on. Got to love this little tidbit.

How a Trump team adviser described his legal team's messy opening day
From CNN's Jim Acosta

An adviser to former President Trump's team offered a candid assessment of the messy opening day for the former president's impeachment team.
Part of the problem for Trump, the adviser said, is that the ex-President had some trouble in assembling a legal team for the Senate trial, noting his first group of lawyers bailed on him.
The adviser said Trump could be in serious jeopardy if he finds himself charged in criminal court, given his inability to attract a high-powered legal team for the impeachment trial.

"Trump is f*cked if anyone ever charges him. No one wants to work with him," the adviser said.

Trump notified of the charge against him: check
Trump offered a chance to obtain counsel: check
Trump offered a chance to testify on his own behalf: check
Trump's counsel given time to argue his case: check

So what part of Trump's due process are we missing here?
Also, due process usually happens during the trial. The very trail that they are trying to keep from happening!

This trial is not just for the senate, it's for the public too and the evidence is video for the most part and it will be repeatedly shown as here. The only path to conviction by the senate is by secret ballot and that might be established at the end of the trial by the democrats and a half dozen republicans. Remember what happened with Liz Cheney on a secret vote? The threats and violence certainly justify such a vote for security reasons alone.

Since senators are also witnesses couldn't they be called to testify under oath? Say ya call Ted Cruz or Ms. Lindsey and ask them about the events of Jan 6th, ask them if they spoke to to Trump or Rudy that day or the day before, call that dummy Tuberville too and ask about the call from Rudy they intercepted, cause he fucked up and left a message on someone else's machine. If these clowns thought the video of the Capital sacking we've seen today is something, wait till they and the media have had two days of it and it will be on YouTube forever.

Well, Trump's defense got off to a flying start today! Looks like the odds of a secret vote get better all the time!

Acosta: I can't imagine Trump being pleased with defense team

CNN's Jim Acosta and Jamie Gangel say their contacts close to former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party called the presentation by Trump's defense team at the second impeachment trial a disaster.

he's entitled to a Public Defender if he can't afford an attorney.

Didn’t his primary legal team jump ship when asked to lie about the “stolen election?”

so these new goons (with even less honor than those that jumped ship) I guess didn’t do so well

I am soooo enjoying this

Impeachment Recap, Day 1: It Was the Best of Lawyering, It Was the Worst of Lawyering

Here is a quick recap of day one of Donald Trump's SECOND impeachment trial. We had the unique opportunity to see lawyering at opposite ends of the quality spectrum. And we discuss the troubling result of 44 Republican senators apparently happy to give trump cover for launching a deadly insurrection on the US Capitol.
