cloning - is Superthrive a good rooting hormone?

I've got a bottle of Superthrive - will that work to root some clones? I've never done clones before, so I want to do it right - no extra challenges. I've seen ST listed as a rooting hormone, but should I buy another one? If so, what brand is the best?

thanks!

Superthrive is not made for rooting. It has vitamin b-1 for reducing plant stress, and some special hormones in it as well. IMO it is a great additive to any feeding regimen, but is DEFINITELY not made for rooting.

No longer. It used to contain an auxin I believe can't find my old bottle, PGR. Vitamin B1 is made by the plant, It's uptake can not occur on a cellular level.
The only Plant Growth Regulator that I endorse is Triacontanol and has to be purchased from laboratories in States., I've run 12-14 week haze hybrids and cut them down maybe 2 weeks indoors. It takes a bit to mix it, not water soluble and a foiler spray weekly, under leaf best, is adequate. Once mixed it has a short shelf life. Mixes with Propylene Glycol 15.
Paclobutrazol is a PGR that is POISON, what they spray power lines with, and makes bushes and rock hard buds, Google the brands. Unfortunately, it is not regulated and if you use it or prefer bushes and rock hard buds, I'm sorry for you.-bk

I’ve seen success with the double dip(gel, powder), But I’ve seen success with just powder or just gel too.

I’ve tried aloe from my plant with water with success but I’ve got large sprayers in my cloner that don’t clog too easily.
I’ve also tried aloe from my plant with some un pasteurized honey.I don’t suggest this as I grew a lot of bacteria.

Now I just use my home made cloner unit with plain tap water, change water every 4 days.try to keep the water cool if you can.
-edit- over the years I found not only do I save a little money not buying products but just changing out my water(5gallons) every 4 days is pretty easy to do and even easier to rinse out without products in there

Just got out the old bottle, green metal cap, contains 0.048% 1-naphthylacetic acid. This is a synthetic auxin that is used for rooting propagation that helps stimulate roots in cuttings. The 'new' Superthrive, white plastic cap, has ZERO value in plants. Snake oil.-bk
Just a note on aloe. It is mildly toxic to both cats and dogs.

You don’t need anything in a aerocloner to root clones except water but 2-3 drops of Rapidstart makes them root out in a matter of days. It’s not organic but very effective. Got a tiny bottle years ago as a free sample and I’m still using it; works great. Toss that super thrive in the trash; total snake oil. Aloe works too if you like to stay au naturale.

I use Super Thrive all through seedling and veg stages...very diluted...2 drops per gallon of water/fert.

When the plants show preflowers, I stop using it.

I've never heard of it being used for rooting.

tstick,
Super thrive now has Zero value. The synthetic auxin has been removed. Vitamin B1 can not be taken up, or is there a need plant makes its own. So it is snake oil. Old metal cap okay new plastic cap, ST laughing all the way to the bank.-bk

You can get Triacontanol and other PGR on eBay.

IBA-K and NAA combination works really well for rooting clones. It's what's in KLN, DipnGrow etc.

I personally stopped using rooting hormones many years ago. Not needed with "water cloning" in DWC, Aero etc. Cheers!

I dip in clonex they add a dash of great white. When I tell you the roots shoot off.. they shoot off. I just transferred some root riots into 16 oz cups about 20 mins ago. I treated the cubes like I did the cutting. Rubbed a thin layer of clonex with a popsicle stick onto the root riot, and then sprinkled the great white powder all over. I also added some powder to the cup's soil mix.

I've got a bottle from years back I never noticed any difference using it so naturally it doesn't get used.

Depending on the method I use a weak solution of formulex and clonex gel or just plain water and clonex gel for aero/bubble cloners.

What are you rambling about dude? TRIA is a natural phytohormone and not a classic mimetic synthetic PGR created in a laboratory.

Triacontanol can actually prolong flowering if used late in flower. You can buy it readily from China. I don't trust the water soluble powder they sell. I believe they are underdosed. Better to make your own stock solution from pure extract.

We've made and used Triacontanol paste and made solutions forever. It's very shelf stable when you use polysorbate20/Tween20. Doesn't hurt to add small amounts of potassium sorbate either. Cheers!

You can buy pure IBA for dirt cheap. Comes out to 1/100th the price of most rooting hormones.

I forget the name of the other common one used but the site i got my IBA from recommended to use that as well. N---acid?
