Next stop is court, in Georgia for election interference and then the DC prosecutor for fomenting a riot, then perhaps Merrick Garland will indict him for insurrection and other crimes. The next AG has been watching the case made against Trump on TV, add in a few witnesses and you've got a conviction in court. If Donald has a pocket pardon, this would be a dandy time to use it to defend himself against this kind of charge.
Donald might have skated with the senate, he won't be so lucky with the courts, perhaps the 14th might be the way to go. Even if Donald is sentenced to prison for the rest of his life, he is a real and present danger and could be pardoned by republicans in the future.

republicans: conviction is only necessary for current presidents because its for removal
democrats: conviction is necessary so he cant run for office again.
mitch: trump is still responsible and liable for what he did as a citizen, but not as president because he isn't the president. convict him as a citizen so he can't run anymore.

I was disappointed/disgusted on the verdict today, but I expected it would happen, seeing that most Republicans sided with Trump rather than oppose his actions on January 6th & instead embrace that fucking abomination, fuck simple morality/justice/truth
But, on the bright side, legally/criminaly he can/will be held accountable
If I had my toe stepped on that day in that riot and was injured, I could/would sue that fuck & win.

A little less than half of the US still believe every lie Trump said about election fraud. A little more than half think he should have been convicted in the Senate. I think it's going to be hard to find a jury of twelve impartial people. Maybe they could get him on tax fraud or other financial crimes if there is hard evidence and the case is clearly explained by the prosecution.

It depends on where the trials are held for him and his cronies, in GA it will be in democratic Fulton co, in DC there is another democratic DA, also VA is where many federal trials happen and the place is full of vets and ex government people in the area they would be tried in. The new AG will be under a lot of pressure from many quarters, including congress, to indict Trump for insurrection among other things. Even Mitch made it clear the courts will deal with Donald and the aftermath of the Capital sacking like they will deal with the rest of the assholes.
I don't see where Garland has much choice about indictments, unless he wants to obstruct justice himself, or be accused of it. They might wait for a congressional commission to investigate the whole affair first though and gather more facts for a conspiracy case. I understand Donald spent $50 million of his "stop the steal" con money on the affair, so that means the cash could be confiscated. They have also opened an investigation of Ms. Lindsey in GA, but it's unclear if they will nail him for it.

I thought there was no way they could have been let off. Yet they managed a complete sweep of the jury finding a Not Guilty verdict.

Too true. Still, I have hope, and a little faith, in the judicial process. I must still think positively. It's all I have left.
Edit: the jury won't be composed of politicians, worried about their jobs.

Mitch had the keys all along. If this trial proceeded faster instead of Mitch delaying the trial, maybe the vote to conviction would be different if Trump was still a government official.
