Minimum nutrients in soil

I decided I would try a grow with a minimum of nutrients. I vegged these 5 weeks, no nutes, and have been in flower for almost 2 weeks. I used fox farm ocean forest soil. I’ve watered them one time with fox farm trio 1/2 strength nutes when I flipped to 12/12, and that’s all the nutes they’ve had. On top of that, I have not ph’d my water which runs about 7 from my well. I have to say, these are very healthy plants, which tends to make me believe I have been making it harder that I needed to in the past. I’m starting to think less is better, and ph’ing water for soil is unnecessary. By the way these are Pure Power Plant from MSNL. Regular seeds, and both were female.

Many people overfeed their plants which is why they end up with issues. You don't need to play chemist with a dozen bottles changing the ratios each week or scrutinize runoff each watering. But yes you are correct about making it harder than it needs to be. Too many overcomplicate growing weed. It's a relatively simple task not some herculean endeavor. Many people understand that and grow huge healthy plants in just a pot of soil and a few feeds of fish fertilizer. Don't buy the hype.

Exactly, It took me a few years, but I think I did exactly that, bought in on all the hype on nutrients, and while I’ve had some successful grows, I’ve had some problems like nutrient burn, etc. So far I’m liking this approach.

This is pretty interesting or me. I have 2 plants in flower since 1/20 and are in FFOF soil like yours. I have been using blue planets 3 part nutes but recently have some burn on one plant and have gone to just ph'd water in hopes the burn will stop.

So that's great for people like you with only 7ph water. I've also heard soil can handle a far wider nutrient range.

But for people like me 8.5+ out the tap I don't think we'd have as good of results but I don't grow in soil so maybe I'm wrong.

There is plenty of nutes in fox farms soil, especially ocean forest. You don't really need to feed at all during veg. These guys are a little over 3 weeks with no nutes. Just pH water with a root enhancer and a little bit of cal mag.AF4F4E9E-1C54-4C9D-A6CF-C8CEBBC36E57.jpegF69FAE88-EA0E-4141-BE41-87CD5D302A51.jpeg

You can always just use some ph down or up to get your ph where it needs to be. but with soil its not 100% necessary, its self buffering

Nice, I didn’t feed at all during veg. I’ve feed once since 12/12, so I’ve only fed one time. Watered this morning, and I may hit them with 1/2 strength nutes next time.

Nice. That’s what I plan to do as long as I keep using FF. I just gave my first feeding because the plants were starting to show the tiniest bit of deficiency symptoms but it’s only at 25% strength. Plant to step it up to 100% over the coming weeks before I flip.
