Autos have the potential to be bigger yeilders than photos.

Have you noticed how many just massive budding plants are autos? Just scroll mephheads for a few minutes and every other plant looks like it's got footballs on it.

And it's not just them tons of autos seem to produce just massive buds.

My theory is it's the extra light. They are getting more photosynthesis throughout the flowering process than photos.

Id bet autos will become even more relevant in the future as they are dialed in more and more.

Nope. I've never noticed.

A few auto's grown indoors in a controlled environment doesn't prove anything. I'm not trying to knock auto's but they'll never out yield a properly grown photo. They don't have the time to develop plants as large as photos. Larger plants equals larger yields in most instances.

I grew an auto outdoors last summer. It came nowhere close to the yield from a photo plant I was growing as well. It finished sooner which can be a good thing in some climates but for yield it wasn't even close. And I wasn't impressed with the final product. Same thing with the other few auto's I've grown. None have come close to the quality final product I've gotten from photos. They've come a long way but they're nowhere near being able to out yield photos.

Another small auto. All different breeders.

I'm talking about indoor square foot to square foot. Also factoring veg and finish times

From my research, it comes down to maxing out DLI.
Autos can have a longer daily light cycle, this gives them more time for photosynthesis.
For example a auto receiving 700 ppfd at 20 hours a day, is getting 50 DLI (definitely maxed out without CO2)
While a photo under the same light, would only be receiving 12 hours of light, or a DLI of 30.
So long story short, indoors, its easier to max an autoflowers potential DLI out than a photo.
But, a photo plant with the same DLI as an auto, can easily give just as large of buds, and a higher yeild due to longer veg.

I'll take the extra 3-4 weeks from seed. I'm not an I want it now person. And photos will win in the hands of most growers. sq ft to sq ft. View attachment 4837256
Vegging longer is always a way to lose your yield efficiency. I veg long myself because I like big plants and I run photos in the majority of my grow because I like the control but having quicker turn around wether it's SoG or vigorous autos will be a close call.

I would say in the same time frame moder autos might get a slight edge.
You can veg indefinitely with a photo. 4lb 8ft plant just needs 8 months of veg.
