Public Service Announcement about Bluelab pH pen

I have noticed that with my blue labs PH pen that after I calibrate it it does not read the proper PH for an hour or two. Example I know my tapwater has a pH of 7.4 and that’s what my PH pen was reading before I calibrated it. After calibrating the pen I checked my tapwater pH and it was reading 6.4. I checked multiple samples recalibrated the pen and the same thing happened. I walked away for a couple hours came back and tested the same samples again and they read the proper 7.4 PH.The only reason I calibrated the PH pen in the first place was because the little check arrow in the bottom right hand corner was no longer checked so PS if you do not have the check arrow it’s time to calibrate.
Has anyone else experienced this with the blue labs PH pen?

I have one.
It doesn’t do that.
I calibrate early and often.

You’re prob not rinsing it well? If it wasn’t reading right it would measure the calibration solution right!?!

They are garbage. My last one gave up two weeks ago. The silicon gasket, grommet. That seals the bulb from the case. Preventing salty fertilizer solution from reaching the electronics.

It'll leak. Then it go out of calibration. You recalibrate it. Check mark appears. Then you notice something is off. It shouldn't take so much PH adjustments. Finally ending with it not calibrating. Crazy readings before. Pull the battery cap and the inside is wet.

And you have a month to go in flower...MF'ERS

Fuck Bluelab. The damn pen was a hundred dollars.

.....

I have and keep the PH solution. Three drops in 3ml fert solution.

How have you double checked?
I have recalibrated 3 different times & tested 3 known samples of water each time the samething happened. I don’t know what’s going on, I rinse the pen well in between each calibration solution. I will try again tomorrow & if this continues happening I will reach out to blue labs. Maybe my pen is on the way out because it is taking forever to get to a number, but then again it always has.

Have you been storing the bluelab pH pen in KCI storage solution like it recommends ?

What was the ionic strength of these known samples? At low ionic strength, pH meters are inherently prone to drift.

I haven't had any issue with mine in a couple years. I keep it stored with the probe wet and whenever I check it with calibration solution it's pretty much spot on.

As with everything there is always going to be a few bad ones in the batch.

Twice? At a hundred bucks a pop???

Are you kidding me?

I don't know what to tell you. I believe that you've experienced failures with your equipment but I haven't had the same experience.

Have you contacted Bluelab? If not you might want to. They have a Returns and RMA's link on their webpage. They may very well replace your defective pH device.

As xtsho said, everything can’t be 100% all the time. It’s possible you got one built on a Friday and the dude just wanted to head home for the weekend.

They require proof of purchase no exceptions but will honor warranty. It may take 3 months... but if inside warranty parameters they will replace

Sure. If the meter was $30. Then I'd get all kinds of forgiveness.

Ever wonder if that guy just wanted to play you for a punk? New Zealand made?

WTF?
