Sterile rez?

So I'm battling root rot don't know why cause the water is cold no light leaks just over it. So I want to hear from the sterile growers. What is the best way to maintain a sterile rez? Thanks in advance

Pool shock. .01 grams per gallon.

Get it at Wal-Mart. 1kg lasts years for a small res.

H202 is expensive. Takes a lot to get through a grow.

Bleach works. Just that liquid can make a mess.

Only problem with shock is you want a .01gram scale. Amazon has one for 12$.

or you can use a small biofilter with beneficials
it will filter your water and clean it

only thing i would add to @Failmore post is that you can either: add the crystals directly to res or you can make a stock solution and use that. i personally weighed it out for each application (once or twice a week)

I make up a gallon solution (1 gram per gallon) of pool shock, then dose the reservoir. I used to measure it, now I just dump it in.

The stuff at my Walmart is that 3in1 or 4 in one shock gonna order some plain old shock if ibcan find some. What's the best way to do it? Shock then nutes or??

I think that is about the correct %. I dont have mine in the original package and it has been a while.

Cold water and no light should be safe. How cold is cold for you?

What nutes - ANYTHING organic in hydro nutes is bad and will accelerate bad bacterial growth.

I use GH trio it's not organic water temp 60°

I just use plain bleach throuh a pipette. No more than 3 drops per gallon of water.

UC root works fantastic, some people don't like the price though.
I buy the 5g for $175, treats 6,300 gallons at its minimum strength (no issues for me)
About $0.55 a rez change (20g)

Pool Shock is literally the exact same thing, except costs $6 to treat nearly a million gallons of water.

I guess you're sort of right, with UC Roots you pay for 99.9% water and 0.1% hypochlorous acid. With HTH Pool Shock you are paying for Calcium hypochlorite, which when dissolved in water creates a much higher concentration of hypochlorous acid.

End result is 100% the same, just you pay hundreds of times more for it.
