How do you store over a dozen mothers long term?

We have 8 mothers, and we veg each 4 under 1000w Hortilux HPS, at 16-18 hours per day, and 2x 32w Solacure UVA/B bulbs per 4 x 4 area, run at 40w, and 6 hours a day. When vegging clones for flowering we run them 24/7 under 1000w Hortilux HPS 2x Solacure at 40w.

Plants are in Living Soil 15 gallon containers. 4 per 1000w.... Many have been alive since 2004.. Used to use Promix BX. Peruvian Seabird Guano, Worm Castings, Kelp, Biochar, Oyster Shells, Azomite, Sul-Po-Mag, Calcitic, and Dolomitic Lime. Still use some of it.

If only it were as easy as planting seeds, you don't what you'll get back from a seed, the idea of keeping a mother is knowing exactly what you have.

That's true but I like different stuff every grow. I'm not doing any volume type grow. Just a small hobby setup where I'm more concerned about preserving seeds than how much I grow. But if you're running a grow where product consistency was a concern then I agree that having stable mothers that you are familiar with is a benefit and a requirement if any significant amount of money is involved. You don't want to be playing around with some cross you've never grown.

This will be the drainage I plan on using for the 3 tier shelf. Each shelf will have a tray with a 1" barbed bulkhead on the end. Then to a 1" elbow over to the barb on the manifold as shown. Have all this stuff on hand just need to buy a couple 1" 45s

I've only kept one mother for years using clones as new mums, imo there's no doubt vigour diminished over time though it was over years of cloning.

I took a look at this earlier.

I'm wondering if traditional bonsai pots (wide, shallow) would be better than the pots in that article?

soil, low light, leave all growing shoots and remove most of the fan leafs. take away their energy source and their fan leafs with all the growing shoots and they will have to put their energy into making more leafs. Still will be a huge pain in the ass.

I can agree. 12 is a lot of work.

You could try grafting. The square pots are good because you can easily trim an inch or 2 from outside soil to refresh with new soil if you are keeping for a long time. I like to take cuttings and clone, then put mother in the flower room. I have a few mothers but i am still hunting for a super pheno. My malawi is great but there are so many strains.
