I'm sure the Mars lights are fine, but personally I wouldn't buy them. I'm not a big fan of Mars' tactics, and I think they cost too much for what you get. I haven't held one of these Viparspectra lights in my hands, but they look a lot more solid than Mars cookie sheets.

We looked at the provided PAR charts for the XS4000 and the smaller versions and thought that 4 of the XS1000's would come closer to the coverage and intensity I am getting with the HLG than the XS4000 would.

I would definitely agree that you get better spread with 4 100watt fixtures vs one 400watt fixture (of this type), because you can spread the boards out further to the corners of the tent as opposed to a hotspot in the center. I personally use 6 HLG QB96's in a similar configuration to the boards on your Scorpion, except that I have a 315cmh in the center of it all.

The spread could be better of course and I do wonder what reds are being used. Probably nothing as good as some Osrams.. but after inspecting all the diodes and build I was pleased. The Xs2000 was definitely worth the $210 I paid!

These lights are pretty good all things considered, and if I wasn't a DIY type of a guy, and I didn't want to spend the money on a HLG prebuilt fixture, these lights are totally up to PAR (pun intended). If you buy these lights, use adequate wattage for your grow space, but can't grow decent weed with them, then that's gonna be grower error, not a fixture problem.

btw, a reverse image search of the bud in question shows no results, indicating that it is likely an authentic pic.

I actually think these look much improved over their previous offerings. The XS2000 will give you 30 watts per square foot in a 2x4 and as you said uses 301b diodes and a meanwell driver. The spectrum looks decent and the prices are low compared to some. Seems to me from a spec point of view these things should do a fine job.

I cant argue with the results of the Mars light though... I'm rocking with HLG,Mars,and VS when it gets here... I don't discriminate, I let the light stimulate, and penetrate

LED lighting has certainly come a long way in the past couple of years. Now even the cheap knockoffs of cheap knockoffs will throw a lot of photons in a good spectrum for the wattage. Of course, some of the manufactures rise above some of the others.
 
I'm gonna have to buy one cause it doesn't ceem like they are going to cend one and I just bought a new 3x3x5 for it... Mars cent a light and a tent to me within the week they asked... Mars is up 1-0
