25 litre pot with Coco only is 25 litres of Coco. 25 litre pot with 30% perlite is 16.7 litres of Coco

canna almost falls through the sieve the cheaper brick coco is full of coco fibre its reluctant to go through at all, canna holds around 20% more water than the brick coco I have.

I asked canna about this a while ago this is what they said,

We do not recommend adding perlite. Continue using the substrate and water till you get 10-20% drainage. It can take time for the substrate to fully saturate and fine peat does indeed increase the water holding capacity of a medium, but you will get drainage.

The coco is designed with ideal porosity from the start and increasing the porosity by adding perlite means you will have to water more frequently. You may get faster drainage, but the medium will dry out faster too, so you still would have to water more. When the container is well rooted, irrigation demands will increase even more.

That’s why I said ‘virtually led the way’, does it really matter who used it first, it’s undeniable Canna was at the front of marketing coco towards cannabis. I thought canna was the first to do it.
What manufacturer was the first to release coco specific nutes?
I know they weren’t the first ones using it horticulture, but the discussion is about Canna coco, and the need for perlite.
Hard to agree with people saying it’s needed when real world results suggest not, and the biggest player in the game says it’s not needed

Whether it's needed or not is up to the individual. I'm sure that healthy plants can be grown with or without it. Until someone runs a controlled side by side all our assumptions are pointless.

Canna does have a commercial motivation to tell growers not to use Perlite but that still doesn't prove anything either. It's just a valid point to consider.

I can only go on what I've found, at the end of the day its up to the individual to use perlite or not.

They can hardly recommend not using perlite then sell bags of coco with perlite in it, do you use perlite?

Perlite is not beneficial unless you have pots that are too big to be watered as frequently as possible. With 4-6 waterings per day, and properly UNDERsized pots perlite is a waste of time and creates unneeded, excessive runoff.

Mother Earth is great. It's a bit pricey for just being inert media.

I found Tupur Royal Gold locally, and really cheap. Big ass chunks of wood n what not, but has good amount of perlite and I haven't had any nutrient issues.

he's been on his second grow for about 16 months. funny shit hey. I reckon he pretends to be a newbie to try and make himself look good when he grows healthy plants
