I had planned on building a 1k led fixture to run this summer. I’m a couple months behind on my current grow so I’m going to be into summer before I’m done. I bought a new 1k DE bulb for this round, 2100k/2100umol, I have the 600w strips on the walls and another SE mh bulb overhead.

I have 26 4K fstrips and 26 3500k L09 (i think, 96 diode) available for the build but I’m kinda wanting some far red and uv strips yet before I think about it that much.

HPS feels right but all these guys who grew with hps never looked back. The grey area for me is running 1150 watt de ballasts on good bulbs. Nobody comments comparisons on de, before they ditched, I know se bulbs are old news, so is de. I don’t know, so many opinions based on reading and not experiences. Like at the time, I could not really see a difference flowering in the 4K range, I have too much invested now to experiment again though haha.
I see lots of folks who would never switch from DE bulbs but my experience shows otherwise. Sure, for the price you cannot beat hps, period but for a little more overhead you can destroy them DE with 650 led watts per 1k de. On paper it may be a close battle but in real life the spread of the leds make up for everything.
Single style bulbs are just not worth it but im not going to say "old news" because i would be wrong. Most of the best growers in the world are still using hps. In my opinion ,the QB boards were "old news" before i even ran leds. (fixtures are too small , cramming way too much heat on one tiny board)

Well damn, guess I need 1200 watts of led in my life. 4 racks 4 drivers, no idea wattage right now, I measured 148 per 5 strips at full power, they are turned down as far as they go, amps.

Im going to cook this bitch soon haha, but.. each 5 strip rack, all in with materials, driver, strips. $75 cad. Racks are on ratchet ropes and I have a 9.5ft ceiling to play with. We will see what they can do pretty soon here. If I did full led, those racks would go overhead and I would double down with 20 l09 3500k strips, few far red and UV. Achieve my 1200 plus at the wall.

I respect all the led knowledge on the forums so making a full switch wouldn’t stress me out. Losing the heat would be nice, especially now with a sealed room and ac.

Still watching for dealsbongsmilie

When that next arrow deal on strips, by the time I seen them the price went back up smh
Sometime the prices drop for less then 24 hours. Everything mentioned in this thread is at regular price or not available now.

148 watts per 5 strips ? i bet they get hot at 30 watts each strip! I dont use heatsink so i cant try that much yet.... If that is full power then i assume the dimmest you can get each rack is about 50 watts ish. So, 1000k de and 600 ish in leds?! wow , i think you are beating the sun! hahahahahahah

Hahaha I’m not sure about extended time on heat, they sit about 90f now (didn’t measure amps dimmed). Running about .7 amps each (full power) or half of nom at full power. They are on the delta 150w drivers x 4.

Wait!.... there more... I have a 600w MH up with the 1k de lol. Journals in my sig, come watch me cook some shit (jk) Will be flipping in the next couple weeks.

These are also an awesome deal for clone / seedling lights. Samsung 30W Constant Current 555ma 37-54v w 0-10V dimming for $2.50 each. tested with a rapid led dimmer and works perfect. the only thing is you need some kind of housing or enclosure for the driver.

Hey, so I picked up some of these, but don’t really know the dimming aspect. Can you break it down for me. The other lights I have have onboard dimmers. What is Rset? Does a dimmer go on ad+-. Many thanks! Still learning. Oh, these would be used on two 24v strips in series. So I’m aiming for 48volts. The strips I have are rated for max 750ma so the 555ma will be great. These are going to be for little seedlings and herbs etc. Many thanks!

Here's the manual

AD (Analog Dimming) +/- are what you would hook a potentiometer up to. These are the ones I used and they work good:

I found them a little cheaper when buying a 10 pack but its been a minute and I don't remember the site. Maybe eBay?

you could also just buy some pots and wire up yourself if you are good w soldering.

Rset lets u adjust the current output but I think you need some type of programmable interface or resistor or something.

I installed 2 strips in a basement box light on one of these, running the strips at 53v (doubt the driver is putting out exactly 53, I’m using 48v strips). Haven’t had time to go back and check with a meter, not hot to touch so I figure it’s alright. I was going to wing it and throw a 100k ohm potentiometer on it eventually. Can’t go wrong @ $2.52 for 30 watts.

Exactly my thoughts. Perfect for my plan to convert some shelving into green space and to start some cactii seeds.

Back on for $9 this weekend.
Wanted to piece a light together today so went to the local box store for hardware and metal for a frame. Prices are absolutely ridiculous it seems for anything metal right now so I’m going to rethink what I’m doing. I am going to throw an already built hlg qb 135 in the space and hold off on building a little strip veg light when the materials come a bit cheaper. Might do some rummaging for like old bed frames etc for the metal lolol. Really trying to make a go of it as a true cheapskate.

If you look at my side lights, I ran out of c channel, I used the top of a old vertical blind lol. Check out pvc pipe. Could mount strips that are tapped to alloy and frame it with pipe. Baking sheets, cheap metal shelf units.
