8 weeks of veg before flowering a must?

I have read many places that you need to veg your plant for at least 8 weeks to get the most out of it. I know Rev from Skunk mag recommends it, then again I’m not a fan of his soil mixes. I ask because I have some 2 week old plants that I hope to transplant into a SIP, and just think it out outgrow the pot if kept in veg for 8 weeks.

With 8 weeks of veg 4 healthy plants have an excellent chance to produce the elusive "aboutapound".

At 8 weeks LST and supercropping will be important as height will be a concern.

I like a 6 week veg but obviously 2 additional weeks means 2 more weeks of weight gain.

you can veg a regular photoperiod for as little or as long as you want.

if growing from seed, the one limiting factor is the plant needs to be sexually mature before you flip it to flower. Flipping too early and force flowering can add stress and lead to herms. 6-8 weeks has been my experience of how long it takes from seed to see the preflower pistils so that 8 weeks sounds like good general advice.

however if you took clones from that same plant once it had matured, you could flower them as soon as they have rooted, since they are technically the same age as the plant you took them from.

at that point, you are just optimizing for your space. some people with small spaces like to flower clones. I personally like to do multiple smaller plants about 12-18 tall before I flip. I just started using SIPs too (earthbox jr) and they definitely took my veg up a notch.

thats Exactly what i am transplanting into. I’m growing in a small space like 32x18x 60 with s double panes HLG 288 V2. So space is an issue for now. I plant on manifolding it. Did your plants outgrow the jr? I’m using coot’s mix, recycled. I usually top dress, and make teas, I produce my own worm castings as well.

many tips.

thank y’all for chiming in. I think y’all are right with the 8 weeks thing. Here’s a picture, plants are at 2 weeks.

The plant in the back is a little sad, I think I overwatered it. Anyways I’m “charging” the soil and using that for the Earthbox jr. I will chop the cover crops down and transfer the soil in the pots to the Earthbox jr. Put some worms and grokashi on top to break down the foliage. Should be interesting.

Just started my first flower cycle with it. Today is a week. Growth is definitely way better than any hand watering cycle. As to whether they will overgrow them I guess we will find out soon enough lol. I'm also a "fuck it hold my spliff" kind of grower and am doing this on a wire rack. 84" tall tent. 2) 40" tall shelfs. only have the one shelf going for now but the full plan is coming together. #yolo

Been updating the SIPs thread weekly.

lights aren't on til 7 hrs from now but I will post this past week progress. I'm so into this style now that I just switched all my veg and moms over to these. Takes out all the guesswork and stress about watering. planning to veg in these til they are @ 12" tall and flip. Moms will stay in these bonsai style until I need cuts.

I am too like that. This is just my only plant in one space, so I want to make sure I yield. I had some really bad times in smart pots so I want to make sure I don’t get into a situation like that.

Depends on your space, plant count, how you grow, and so many more factors. Im hoping for a 6 week veg to fill my 4'x4' tent with 4 plants.
That plant count is the sticker for us. In Canada recreationally, we're only allowed 4 plants at a time. So technically with four 5X5 tents we can produce about 8 kg of bud each year using 6 month cycles (over 3 months veg) while keeping within our count limit. I still know guys who plant 30 clones up here, flower in 2 or 3 weeks, and do much better than that. But that's cheating! :P
