Thoughts on this mix? First Auto run...

Going to try a little coco/peat blend before trying all coco. Just mixed up a batch last night so these numbers are final for now. Never ran this mix but pieced it together from a lot of reading. I know this is organic but I’m going to test the PH of a cup of dirt with distilled water just to get a vague idea of where it’s sitting because to know Peat is a lower PH than coco.

6 autos will be going in 3gal pots.
Strawberry Pie (fast buds)
Wedding cake (Barney’s)
Gorilla zkittlez (Barney’s)
Purple Punch (Barney’s)

- Final Medium
- 40% Coco Coir + Perlite (Mother’s)
- 30% Peat + Perlite (ProMix HP mico)
- 20% Earth Worm Castings
- 10% Grow Stones (1in Bottom of pot)
- Down to Earth 444 - 2tbsp per gallon (2cups)
- Down to Earth Insect Frass - 1tbsp per gallon (1cup)
- Down to Earth Dolomite Lime - 1tbsp per gallon (1cup)
- Mykos Mycorrhiza - 2tbsp per gallon (2cups)
- Humic Acid - A bunch...

Anything else I may want to toss in there? Or any tips to add? Going to be top dressing through the run and watering with insect frass and Humic acid most likely. Will PH both going in as well as runoff just to keep an eye on things.

quick question. Should I toss in 25% of the recommended dose of bloom? Because the auto veg period is so short? So the plants have some juice when they hit week 3-4?

thanks friends and happy growing!

Peat and coco is a bad mix, unless yer an experienced grower

Watering can be a challenge for sure

Coco dosent retain nutes
Peat does but us considered soil less medium

I’m not too concerned about the watering, I’ll keep an eye on it. And coco doesn’t retain nutes very well yet a ton of people are using purely coco with dry amendments and having success. I’m adding peat to help with the microbes and all that crap because I’m too chicken shit to try pure coco right of the bat haha

I added a little coco to my organic soil on this run, maybe 10%. Compared to my previous run, I like it much better. It keeps the mix less hydrophobic, so watering is easier.

How many cubic feet of soil are you mixing up total? You should really consider going with a tested mix, there are a lot of issues with the one you posted. Highly recommend 1/3 coco/peat (50/50 or more peat than coco, not the other way around), 1/3 aeration, 1/3 EWC/compost (only high quality will work well, otherwise the mix falls apart). Some coco is actually really good in a mix because it increases water infiltration and loosens up the soil, but too much of it is bad, esp with dry amendments, because of it's CEC-the peat and humus are carrying the load. I know there is some guy using dry amendments with coco on youtube and people always come here wanting to try it and 90% of them fail. Here is a thread with quality info on organics https://forum.grasscity.com/threads/no-till-gardening-revisited.1400505/

Total is 18 gallons worth of medium. Yeah hahaha mr Canucks grow on YouTube. Obviously where I got the idea. But I’m trying to take some of the benefits of coco and some of the benefits of peat and mix them together with organic matter and kind of combine everything. I know what the issues and cons of both are and I’m preparing for them but hoping to get a nice balance. I’m mentally preparing myself for possible cal/mag/iron/P issues but I dunno we’ll see.

Everyone on here pretty much laughed in my face when I was going to use CFLs to grow for my first time and they ate their words pretty much. Sure not the most ideal light and things could have been improved sure, the harvest could always be better but 5.7oz off two tiny ass trained plants in a 2x2 isn’t bad at all imo... but hey maybe I’m due to crash and burn hahaha. If the dude on YouTube is ACTUALLY doing what he says then it’s more than possible if you can get things dialed in. Which I’m prepared to do. Im not pro so we’ll see how it goes.
