Piece it together dude, I've literally just spent $1200 myself, I bought a 4x4 gorilla grow tent for about 400 dollars. I bought a lumatek 465w led light for about 800 dollars and a mountain air carbon filter for 150 i also bought one of those Time-R electronic timers for 50 dollars
Fuck yeah that sounds legit

I know this board is 100% sold on the newest LED tech, but to me the upfront costs are still more prohibitive than it's worth. I have a 1000w HPS in my 5x5 and couldn't be happier. I have a LED and HPS tent of about the same watt per sqft that I'm running side by side, currently seeing the 1000w HPS system outperforming the LED for what it's worth...

Using amazon US exclusively for the bigger items here's what I'd go for:
5x5 tent: Vivosun or equiv ~$150
XL 6" COOL TUBE REFLECTOR (IPOWER) ~$75
1000w HPS system with two bulbs (ipower/vivosun): ~$150
AC infinity T6 and 6" filter: ~$215
Total: $590

Misc supplies:
Fabric pots 5/7 gallonx12: $25
Oscillating fan (walmart/lowes etc): $25
Floor fan: $20
6" ducting 25ft: $25
Trays/pot lifters: $20
Nutes: $100 (I only use GH Micro, Bloom, Calmag, and a silica product)
Coco/perlite: $50 (two blocks & a bag of perlite if desired)
Garbage bin/tote for a reservoir: $15
pH/TDS tools: $50 (I RARELY use mine anymore... Have been doing the same thing and getting similar enough readings for enough time to do without)
Thermometers/hygrometers: $30
Total: $360

Remaining: $250

Would use the rest for clones/seeds and grow happily for a year or two, only needing more nutes and medium as I go along.

Current cycle of Blue Cheese/Blue Widow under 1000wHPS (turned to super lumens or 1100W) Day 20 of 12/12

No worries, always happy to share.

What I'd be asking to determine what the right route is:

What are power rates like where you live? If they're low, maybe run some rough #s to determine what's right for you.

I see recommendations for lights in the $5-800 range, so lets say you like a $700 LED pulling 640W.
HPS plus large cool tube reflector would be $250
Difference of $450

How long with your power rates, would it take to break even on that $450 difference, using a mere 0.36kwh less electricity per hour of running time?

Speaking of LED's, I am considering giving them a try but don't know where to start. I would like to find something for a 2x4x6.5 size tent. Any thoughts on what wattage I should shoot for in for that area? I don't have that big of a budget but would like to get something decent. Any brands or particular types that are worth looking into?
I use an ONEO 3500k Full Spectrum 1000W light from amazon in a 2x4 and i use 2 of them in a 5x5. Excellent LED lights and a really good price. True wattage is like 220W i think.

Should i get a kit or piece it together? I have room for a 5x5 tent. Im Looking at both led and hps set ups. Its been about 12 years since my last indoor hps grow. Thanks for any help.
My setup is a Mammoth 5x5 tent, Gorilla High CFM 5x5 kit, extra Vivosun 5x5 hanging bars, AC Infinity T6 Smart Fan, Vivosun 6" Filter, Inkbird Humidistat, Vicks V4600 Humidifier, 2x ONEO 1000W Full Spectrum LED lights, For Living 8" Metal Table Fan (usually hung upside down), Vivosun Short Cycle Repeat Timer (for the fan), Belkin Power Bar (no red indicator light on it), Secret Jardin Webit Trellis, and an Exhale bag.

I also run a Frigidaire dehumidifier on another Inkbird humidistat and an AC unit through an Inkbird thermostat in my garage outside of the tent.

I got to question actual wattage use ?
Because the manufacturer even says it needs two for a 4' x 4'

It seems like you are under powered for flowering in a 5' x 5'

220W, they're good lights for a 5x5. Looking inside my tent is like looking into the sun lol.

My setup............................ Vivosun 6" Filter
Your choices were very good except for the filter. I know they are cheap but if you have some really nasty smelly stuff flowering that filter may not be strong enough. GL :eyesmoke:

The one i got is a good filter, their consistency is kinda spotty so idk about others. The only time it ever smells is when the fan turns off during flower. But it's also legal here so it's not a big deal.

Got ya. I have to keep it clean so I need the best filters. Not a drop of smell and they last hella long time.

Thanks. Looks nice. I've got 3x Hollandstar X5 cobs from amazon canada in my 4x4. It's reaallllly bright. Good to know I could probably get away with two now that I've seen your plants.
These ones were vegged outside but inside for flowering, that's why they arent scroged and the canopy is uneven. This year I'm scrogging Gelato completely indoors, I think that'll give me bigger buds than last year.

$1200 was my budget also, my first grow in years lol and was looking at hps and leds. I ended up with spider farmer sf-4000 for the light=$600, tent is Vivosun 4x4=$100, got ac infinity induct= $150 (but definitely can buy a cheaper one with controller.) 2 fans are Honeywell ht900=$30(15 each), vivosun thermometer=)$10, soil and nutrients, neem,ph meter= $300( had nothing needed everything). Ended up coming into problems so over the next couple months picked up maybe 100 bucks more random things. Everything was purchased on amazon. My favorite thing is the 2 gal garden pressure sprayer Perfect for watering. With everything I was on a budget and tried to keep power consumption around $1 a day. Definitely a success so far
Sounds like you do your homework, wtg!

200-400w range would be perfect for that size. That's a small tent. You might want to consider a 4x4 or 5x5.
Thanks for responding, I did have the 4x4 tent for a few runs and just don't have the room for it anymore. I now only grow 1-2 plants at any given time for personal use and hash making. I mainly need something that doesn't produce a lot of heat. It would be nice to not have to use the air conditioning during flowering. I am done doing summer grows in big tents. I am stocking up on a few items for a fall/winter grow this year, looking for some bargains but I am willing to spend more for something custom, that fits my needs. I find that 2x2 and 2x4 tents are very good for moving passive air over the plants. Thanks again :peace:

How is heat in there with that light? Do they come in different kelvin spectrums? like around 6500k and the lower 2100k range? Thanks
