Current readings are coco I had rinsed a few times a while back, although I plan on rinsing again and also buffering with botanicare cal-mag.. I mixed a little bit of coco coir with a few oz of tap water.. my tap water pH is stable and in the 5.5-5.7 range

That's not how you measure coco, it's also not needed.
oh lol

sooo. How do I do it ? Measure the run off water from it ? I thought you were supposed to check the salt content ? How do I do that ?
Also, to buffer, I just rinse it, then make a cal mag solution and soak it for a while then drain ?

Most coco comes pre-buffered now. I use a low EC (0.4 EC) nutrient solution to rinse my coco. Not to buffer it but to remove the fines and prep it for seeds. CalMag is overused now due to everyone online thinking it's needed for everything.
