super fast drying bud??

I hang dry my buds in a dark room with the window open and a fan not blowing on them directly. At first i harvest little popcorn buds and they dried in like 2 days so i thought it was becuase they are small. I just harvest my big main colas and they have been hanging for about 24 hours and already feel close to being done drying. I heard its ready when the tips are crispy.

But i hear people drying for 1-2 weeks why do my buds feel like they will be ready in 3 days?

Probably because its only dry on the outside, it also has a lot to do with the humidity if you live in Arizona or something where the humidity is really low it wont take very long to dry. Do the stems snap rather than bend? If they snap then you are ready to begin curing, the curing process will even out the moisture content in the bud and alow you to get the perfect dryness.

"snap" is the wrong terminology to use only because its a little misleading. they should crack when you bend them but if they snap right in 2 then youve waited a little too long to start curing.

Yeah you're right I meant crack, I usually bite the end of the stem to see if it splits or not.

Ya it's ok as long as you're going to cure it, the faster the bud dries the more it will need curing.

i just checked humidity, its at 15% should is that good? or should i put a humidifer in there?.
Also for curing do i just leave it in jars and open them up a few times a day?

15% is pretty low 40-50% would be better, if you want the bud to dry slower then you should hydrate the air either with a humidifier or a bowl with some water but if u have the window open it wont matter much.

When I'm curing I feel the bud in the jar to see if it feels crispy or soft if it is soft then I leave the top off until the outside feels crispy then put the lid back on. I usually check to see how they feel 2 or 3 times a day at first, after a week or so they don't need to be checked as much. Also for curing small buds I fill the jars 2/3-3/4 of the way up, for larger buds I try to leave it about half empty, after your done curing you can fill them all the way to conserve jars during storage.

Three days is too fast---increase your humidity and allow them to dry over 5-to-7 days.

As you said- the curing process will even out the moisture but if you dry them faster than 5 days before curing there is not enough time for all the chlorophyll(green grass taste) to convert.

More importantly is that the drying is slow and even with humidity 40 to 45% for 5 to 7 days.

Too fast-----Need to go slow with 40-45% humidity. Thats if you want smooth tasty buds.


What has worked well for me----I built a sealed drying rack with hanging space and drying screens for loose buds---The unit is 8'x2.5'x4'--I built a fan unit on the top that has a digital thermostat---I have a humidifier ducted to the bottom on the unit that is controlled by a humidistat by CAP. I hang dry the colas for 3-1/2 days them move them to paper-sacks that are stored in the drying racks-I keep them there for 3-1/3 days then the buds get trimmed off the stems and cured in glass jars for 28 days(the jars are opened once a day to breath. After the 28 day cure the buds are slow roasted in my bubbler.
