Looking for good practical guides

Does or is there a practical guide for growing start to finish? I'm in my first grow and I've read a lot but still find information lacking. For instance how do you know when to switch from veg to flower? Do you just kind of guess based on how much room you have? A friend gave me four babies about 1 foot tall each, he says take them home and top and transplant them. I haven't heard from him since. I took them home and transplanted but was afraid to to them right away because I felt they needed to adjust to a new soil and whatever nutrients were in them. I transplanted two in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and two in Detroit Nutrient Water only soil. My friend also said only water on Monday nd Wednesday. So I watered with 20oz after the transplant on Friday night and by Monday they al looked like they were wilted. I quickly added water only to all four plants 40oz each and they all looked healthy the next day. Then a the week progressed the Detroit Nutrient plants started to show yellowing on the edges of the leaves which then turned to brown spots on some leaves. I started 40oz every other day and 20oz in between which keeps my soil moist on all plants. By the way the fox farm planted plants appear to be fine, also all of the plants have grown at the same rate except one. Newbie mistake 101 "secure your fan" mine fell and cracked the main stalk. No problem I had a backup plan I bought Clonex to try and clone any of the plants incase something went downhill. so I grabbed to two 6+ inch pieces of chopped tops and applied the clonex and watched them slowly wilt and start to die. so then I cut the bottom off and put them in a 20oz bottled water with nothing added and they seam to be living some 4 days later. So now I have three 18 inch tall plants what do I do next? let them grow half way up to the lights and then switch to flower? were can I read up on the realities of growing? Germinating? I bought 12 packs of different Burpee seeds to experiment with and here's what I got: Seeding pellets that expand when you add water= 4 out of nine germinated after 4 weeks. Plastic bag and paper towel = 2 seeds germinated and look like pip squeaks after 5 weeks. Burpee smart self water ultimate growing system = So far 24 of 36 sprouts in under 4 days, but they are under a 20 watt grow light. Don't experiment with seeds that cost $40+ for 3 seeds and higher, figure out what your doing first with regular $1.99 seeds first. Speaking of seeds start by growing plants that are fragrant like Rosemary, Lemon Chives, and Lavender. They will help control marijuana odors in other parts of your house so visiting friends and neighbors don't don't get a whiff. Growing mediums, I kind of like DWC or Kratsky, is water temp an issue? Nobody seams to mention it when they talk about how to build a cheap one on YouTube! I don't think I wanna do soil again. So in ending where can I look up a practical guide?

Switch them to 12/12 now they’ll get too big. If your not feeding them nutrients yet then you should start to asap. I suggest canna nutrients follow the directions on the bottle. Its basically general knowledge, if you know what a plant needs to live supply with it

If growing photo’s then you decide when to start flowering. Your plants are going to at least double and sometimes triple their height during the flowering stage so keep that in mind. During veg your plants require more nitrogen, during flowering they require more phosphorus. If you are still new to growing, I wouldn’t suggest running anything other than a soil grow.. they are the easiest and least involved while they will still teach you a lot about how to grow. Just my 2 cents. Hit me up if you need any advice

Growing vegetables is a far cry from growing marijuana
Seeds are cheap many places
There is no substitute for growing weed except maybe tobacco

It's not about growing, it's about the germination method you choose to use. If you plan to germinate using the plastic bag and paper towel method then just try it. 6 different seeds and all failures means rethink "how" youre doing it at fraction of the cost of failure with an expensive seed. Everyone has an opinion of the best way to do it, but its always based on what worked best for them in their environment. My brother swears against heat mats, but plenty of people use them and have great results. As far as seeds go, if you work at McDonalds seeds are expensive while the person working behind a desk a Google thinks there a dime a dozen. I would rather experiment with a pack of seeds for 2 bucks, then to screw up seeds that cost 15 times more. I bought cheap seeds, $67.00 for 6 seeds and it took 12 days to receive them. I wouldn't be upset if they fail, but I would be pissed having to wait another 12 days to get new seeds. Tell me where I can get seeds cheaper and faster.......

So since you "well known member" didn't answer the question let me ask another. Why comment if you aren't helping?

Thanks, so I'll go to a 12/12 today. I was confused about nutrients because Detroit Nutrients water only is a start to finish living soil so I'm not supposed to add nutrients. The Fox Farm Ocean forest is supposed to supply nutrients for a good month according to my supplier. So with less than two weeks on the transplant I didn't want to burn the plants.

I could use some advice on nutrients, I feel like I'm along and if I'm going to flip to 12/12 I should skip the veg nutrients and go straight to a blooming mixture. What do you think about that? I have Meigs formula 1 & 2. Formula 1 is veg/grow 5-4-3 and is a powder. Formula 2 is bud/bloom 2-5-7 and is also a powder. I also have some Natures Pride Veg and Bloom, I had already bought it when my supplier assured me I would be happier with the Meigs and offered it to me free to try.

Thanks, I'll switch to 12/12 today. My confusion with nutrients came because I hadn't anticipated getting plants that were so far along and I didnt want to burn them.

Well you could have offered to send those seeds rather than offering basically a blank dead end statement. It didn't help or move the conversation forward. I've been building and setting up computers since the 80's and when people asked me for help I always gave them my number and said call anytime, knowing it would be at 3am but I didn't mind. I knew I was helping out another geek like me so I kept helping them move forward. I live in a legal state so everybody and their brother grows. I can get clones a dime a dozen, and backyard information from half the crackheads on the street. They all have certain things in common, they grow the plant with what they think is the highest THC they can find and they use soil. They also swear by there way and dismiss anybody else's. I just want to be a little different, THC aint the end all be all, taste and effect matters too.

I was only asking for a guide, my brothers been growing for over 10 years. I'm trying to avoid my way or the highway mentality, and I also want to beat him at his game. Yes I may be a noob, but I've been around. I'll do two grows in soil, but while I do them I have a 5 gallon buckets of water just sitting. I measure the temp everyday, cause they said "don't do hydro water temps will f you up". When I take the next step I want to be ready. I'm not a commercial operation I have no plans to invest thousands of dollars on water chillers, O2, and any other high priced connoisseur type stuff. If the monthly cost are higher than just grabbing something from the dispensary then why do it? Can you help me make hydro a reality? Can you help me avoid the simple mistakes? Your post didn't offer any advice, thanks for considering sending seeds, but a few words of advice would be cheaper and go further. You are right though "I got this" I'll make many mistakes long the way, but hey I've been making mistakes for 60 years and the though of growing might be another one. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

Already covered the cheap seeds on another post, Fleur Du Mal, $50 for 50 seeds
Thank, my post wasnt about looking for cheap seeds, but yeah they sell 25 seeds for $30 bucks not bad. The only problem I have with them is that the cheap packs are made up of stuff that has been improved on, so there not as good or ones that didnt make the cut while they tried to breed a better plant. Look at the prices of the seeds that made the cut they run 60 for10 seeds. Still cheap but you know what your getting, also while being cheap they are expensive if they all fail to germinate. Fluer du mal doesnt offer any guarantees for germination!

You will still get some good genetics, possibly great genetics, that's the gamble, in general better than bagseed.

Popcorn time.

It always amazes me how well respected growers on here are given such verbal diarrhea from new members but hey im an idiot what do I know.
My comment wasn't verbal diarrhea, it was a common sense response to somebody who wanted to wanted to make pointless point! Like you just did! It amazes me how so called well respected members have decided that anyone who doesn't put up with bs is out of place. For instance you wanted to make a smart ass comment, why? cause you figure that if I snap back I'm wrong to do so? Oh I forgot I'm supposed to be a ignorant noob so I should just sit back and shut up right? All I ask for was a guide, a reference to a good book, what's so hard about that? Not one reply answered a simple question. Yet I thanked everyone who offered good advice, I even followed that advice. If your well known and respected then be above the bs and you won't feel disrespected. Noob doesn't equal dumb, or victim. Now go have some popcorn!

Pssst that thing in your hand is a computer

That means you can research and find answers without any social contact whatsoever

While many try shortcuts and demanding answers now

I'm sure someone of your caliber will reach up and help yourself

That would be your best bet IMO
