Indoor start, Outdoor finish

If I germinate seeds late this fall and veg them indoors over the winter, under 6 t12 led 4 foot tubes, to give them a head start to be planted outdoors in the spring, will it be worth the time and electricity? I'm thinking I could get them 2 or 3 feet in this time. Also it would only be 4 plants, not a room full, but is the lighting even okay for this? I know mh or hps or even a LED system designed for horticulture would be ideal, but given that it's just to give them a head start before moving outdoors, would this work? Cheers

Maybe. I did it the last 2 years in Canada and I'm not so sure it's worth it. Bigger plants do better in early cold snaps but plants in garbage cans can be brought inside in the cold. I had a cut worm try to kill my big SLH last year and she was so huge it couldn't. You have to feed and light them longer too. I'm just getting my setup dialed in but nice to start with a seed or small seedling, but weather is huge when they're small.
I found a 400 HPS with an Adjust-A-Wings reflector just enough light for 4 seed plants in a 4by 4 area.

Germ seeds in Feb for a head start in the spring.
