Yes.
You have to wash hydroton a lot.
I mean a lot. I put mine in the bathtub. Took about 2 days to clean my Mother Earth hydroton.
It's a pita, but it's good for years once you're done.

I thought so, I was 90% sure I would have to clean it cuz I figured the dust would cause issues

This may seem stupid but. I’m about to start my first hydroponic grow my hydroponic medium (pebbles) arrived with a dust type layer on them should I wash them off before I use them or no ?
I use to take a tote 27 or 50 gallon drilled some 1/4" holes in the bottom and put it up on some saw horses outside and let the water hose run through it for about 30 minutes.

ive never phd the hydroton i use to do the rockwool but they said you dont have to do that anymore. bit if i used it still I would still soak.it at 6.0 like i used to.
