The plant killer (me)

Hey all,
First timer here, doing what I do well, killing plants; or at least trying.
I planted these from seed in some Miracle Grow soil I got from Home Depot 2 weeks ago and have had them outside in the heat until yesterday, when I forgot about them and they got too hot and started to burn up.
My 2x4 tent arrived today and they are currently in it til about midnight. I've been trying to keep them outside during the day and then put under light for another 6 hours to get 18 hours of light.
Currently I have them under a shop light (2 T8 32 watt bulbs), and 2 LED BR30 Reflector 65W grow lights from Walmart.
I also have 2 of these coming, (for a total of 4);
2-Pack T5 HO Grow Light - 1 Bulb Light System - Fluorescent Hydroponic Indoor Fixture Bloom Veg Daisy Chain with Bulbs (4 Foot & no Reflector (DL8041 2pack), Cool White | Vegetative)

Temps will be around 82F in my house.

Just curious what you guys think.
Any advice appreciated.

First of all Welcome! Sorry bro but I'm a Noob too. Any advice from me would probably hurt you more than help you. I thought I killed mine today myself...I got lucky and learned "another" lesson. Just hang here there are some good guys that will keep you on the right path.

ive been growing 2 years and still killing them it happens but i have had success too so just roll with the punches rule number 1 get in a habit of taking care of them daily and watching for any problems try to catch early thats my advice

I think I'm probably guilty of this.
I've already killed 12 tress in my back yard, 9 to over-watering, 3 to no watering.
I didn't think I could over water in AZ...
I can kill any plant, lol!

Yeah, that MG soil is pretty strong for young seedlings, but as soon as the seedlings makes enough roots, they will rebound. And as far as those new lights that you ordered go, they won't even be good enough to veg your seedlings properly. In other words, you should really think about getting a few more of those, or better yet, look into buying an entirely better light system!

You're overwatering them and you should have filled those pots up with soil instead of just halfway.

The seedling in the last photo is a tri-leaf. So for your first grow you got something rather rare.

Are you planning on growing inside or are you just getting them to a point where they are big enough for outside?

Unfortunately as stated before the lights you ordered aren't going to be sufficient. I have an old 4 bulb T5 set-up with a reflector that I've used for veg a few times. I can't imagine ever trying to use it to flower. It was never ideal. I suspect the 2x4 tent will be a little tricky without upgrading to a significantly more powerful (and expensive) lamp. When I switched to a budget (but not garbage) LED the difference was super apparent.

But before going down that road at all... Dank asked a good question, what is your ultimate plan for flower? If you were thinking you'd flower outdoors, do you really only have 12 hours of daylight where you're at? If you're above 15 hours of daylight hours (not direct sun, meteorological daylight - you can look this up online, don't include the nautical portions) you can just veg outdoors.

For $159 bucks you could at a minimum gotten a Spider Farmer SF1000 (2x2 footprint) led grow light.
Cheap and effective… did a review on one. Also many other brands HLG quantums, etc.

Forget those flouro lamps … your pre existing T8 could be used for germination starts instead.

I would love a badass light system, but money is an object these days and I got what I could.

Actually, 2 of the 4 are tri-leafs.

This was not planned. I had never considered trying to grow weed before, but I was given some seeds and here we are. The tent seemed like a decent idea just because it's so friggin hot here right now.

I dont really have a plan, yet. I guess I was just hoping to get to that stage first and see what happens. The smell will definitely play a part eventually, and that my change things.

I looked at something like those, but not knowing enough about them, I figured I would need 2 for 2x4 tent, so I got what I could afford that would fit in the tent.
I am however quite handy and know how to solder. Has anybody ever made their own LED light?
I guess I'll have to look into it one way or another.

The 1000D does not have a dimmer and I believe people have said on this site that the watts are down to 85 from 100...

The 1000 for $135 has 100watts and is dimmable. For seedlings you will want the dimmable one. I have this light for seedlings and veg and it can run pretty warm. I kept mine at 75-80% at 20in and they liked it.

You can also look into the mars hydro ts1000. It is very comparable in cost, it also has a dimmer but lower spec driver and diodes. However it is 150watts and doesn't seem to get as warm as the spider farmer.

Mars hydro for more power, spider farmer for more efficiency and possibly better customer service. If you are looking for a budget light. Either of these options will get the job done. I like them both.

Found a convo on another forum about this topic, sounds like the 1000d uses cheaper diodes.

I have a Mars SP250 which I've been fairly happy with so far, but then I've only used it to veg plants for outdoors. They seem to be out of stock at the moment (also, ~$250).
