The internodal distance is dependent on genetics and light intensity. The side branches will get stretchy if they are shaded out by upper growth and/or if they are competing with other branches for the light.

**plant growth hormones regulate the internodal distance. These are naturally created by the plant to regulate its growth according the environment, nutrients, light, etc...**

I had an SF2000. It should be fine at 24 to 30 inches above them in veg. More than than three feet and they might stretch. I'd say it's likely genetics unless you're real far away with the LED.
