Trump Organization Indictment Watch: Why Does it Take so Long for Prosecutors to Indict?

As the nation waits for a possible indictment of the Trump Organization to be handed down by the New York grand jury in connection with District Attorney Cy Vance's investigations, the question is often asked - why does it seem to take prosecutors so long to indict people for their crimes?

This video explains the difference between "reactive" grand jury investigations in which an arrest is made and prosecutors labor under strict court deadlines and "proactive" grand jury investigations - like those against Matt Gaetz, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump and others - where there is no arrest and therefore no deadlines. Here are consequences of cases the prosecutors work in the grand jury with no deadlines.

Strong Case Against Trump CFO, Says Trump's Former Impeachment Lawyer

Criminal charges against the Trump Organization are imminent, and Trump’s lawyers are downplaying the seriousness of the charges. MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber is joined by Robert Ray, a veteran lawyer who once represented Trump in his impeachment trial and who took over for Ken Starr as the independent counsel investigating Bill Clinton, to discuss the probe. Ray explained the fringe benefits in question aren’t “like tickets to a ball game.” He added, “that’s a substantial amount of income” and cautioned “there may be more” charges coming.

Trump Organization and CFO to be charged Thursday: WSJ
The Trump Organization and its CFO Allen Weisselberg are set to be charged with tax-related crimes by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Weisselberg is the subject of a criminal tax investigation by the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. Prosecutors are reportedly looking into whether benefits given to Weisselberg and other executives were represented in the company's financial record-keeping system and if the company paid taxes on those benefits.

I suppose prosecutors could use this and other things to flip Ivanka, if she makes a plea deal, she would have to reveal all the other crimes she knows about. I wonder if that would include child sexual abuse from Donald? It looks like they have her for perjury at least, but I'll bet they will end up indicting her for much more.

It Sure Sounds Like Ivanka Trump Lied Under Oath to Criminal Investigators | Vanity Fair

IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE IVANKA TRUMP LIED UNDER OATH TO CRIMINAL INVESTIGATORS
The inability to tell the truth appears to be an inherited trait.

If you paid any attention over the course of the last several years, you know that Donald Trump and his family famously have trouble telling the truth, which is another way of saying they‘re total liars. Trump himself, for instance, told 30,573 lies as president, and God knows how many since leaving the White House. Melania Trump claimed to have graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, which of course never actually happened. Eric Trump insisted the Trump Organization stopped doing international business when his dad became president, a certified pants-on-fire statement. In April, it emerged that Donald Trump Jr. seemingly lied to prosecutors investigating the 2016 inauguration—and according to a new report, his sister Ivanka Trump may have too.

Per Mother Jones reporter David Corn, during a December 2020 deposition, the ex-president’s eldest daughter was asked by the D.C. attorney general’s office if she had any “involvement in the process of planning the inauguration.” (D.C. attorney general Karl Racine sued the Trump Organization, the Trump International Hotel, and Trump’s 2016 inaugural committee in January 2020, alleging the groups funneled large amounts of inauguration cash into the first family’s pockets via the hotel.) Ivanka, who was an executive at the Trump Organization before becoming a senior presidential adviser, reportedly responded under oath, “I really didn’t have an involvement,” adding that if her “opinion was solicited,” she “would give feedback to my father or to anyone who asked my perspective or opinion.” That, she claimed, was that.

But according to documents obtained by Mother Jones, that does not actually appear to be true! Instead, it seems that the former first daughter was intimately involved in the decision-making for various aspects of the inauguration:
One email chain shows that Ivanka Trump was directly involved in the planning of at least one proposed event for the inauguration. On November 29, 2016, Rick Gates, then the deputy chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Committee (known as the PIC), emailed her the current schedule of inauguration events. He noted that Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a lead producer working with the PIC, “is going to call you to discuss some additional ideas she has about some other events that we would like to see if you would be willing to do based on our meetings.” Ivanka replied to Gates and Winston Wolkoff, “Great. I am looping in my assistant Suzie who can coordinate a time for us to connect.”
A few days later, Winston Wolkoff sent a long “Dear Ivanka and Jared [Kushner]” email to Ivanka Trump and her husband. She thanked them for “our meeting yesterday” and presented them with a “high-level summary” of the inauguration plans “for your review.” This was a detailed report on the assorted events and themes being created for Trump’s inauguration. The “overarching strategic objective,” she reported, was “reinforcing” the theme “With the People: Making America Great.” She laid out “key” messages, including “Our greatest strength is our people” and “Americans deserve to be heard, and their government needs to listen.” She noted that in their recent meeting, she and Ivanka Trump had discussed how to include Donald Trump’s “constituency” in the events, and Winston Wolkoff referred to proposals for doing so. This included inviting “families from all 50 states to attend official functions” and provide them “Airfare. Accommodations. Hair & makeup.”
In this email, Winston Wolkoff also asked Ivanka to confirm that she would host a “Women’s Entrepreneurs Reception/Dinner” as part of the inauguration. “Please let me know who…you would like invited,” she added. And she asked whether Ivanka Trump would prefer for the event to be hosted at the National Museum of African American History or the National Gallery of Art. Winston Wolkoff also attached to the email the communications strategy for the inauguration, the proposed event schedule, and a list of the “100 most influential women in Business, Philanthropy, Fashion, Politics and Finance.” She ended the note saying she would “follow up” with them “at TT”—a reference to Trump Tower.

According to Mother Jones, Kushner responded the following day, writing, “Thanks, Stephanie—looks like it’s going to be a special event! So glad you are involved!” Ivanka Trump responded later that day, writing: “As mentioned, my interest in hosting [the dinner or reception for women entrepreneurs] depends on the quality and theme of the event.” She asked Winston Wolkoff to coordinate with with Abigail Klem and Rosemary Young, who served as the president and marketing head, respectively, of Ivanka’s company, saying, “It would be great to have a cross section of industry and also invite top female cabinet members and lawmakers.” In the email, Ivanka also said she would be happy to assist Winston Wolkoff if she ran into any problems coordinating with Reince Priebus, Trump’s soon-to-be White House chief of staff, and Katie Walsh, Priebus’s deputy: “please let me know if you don’t get the direction that you need from Reince and Katie and I will step in,” she wrote.

Trump ranked fourth from worst in C-SPAN's 2021 presidential rankings
Former President Trump is the fourth lowest ranking U.S. president, according to C-SPAN's 2021 President Historians Survey.

C-SPAN's survey, first conducted in 2000, includes 142 historians, professors and other professional observers of the presidency who gave all former presidents a score from one to 10 in multiple different leadership characteristics. The results are then averaged to tabulate a score.

Trump received a score of 312, giving him a ranking of 41 and placing him above former Presidents Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan. This is Trump's first time appearing on the list, with the last survey having been released in 2017 when his term had just begun.

In comparison, former President Obama received a score of 664, making him 10th in the rankings. His ranking went up by two places, placing him above his two immediate predecessors, former Presidents George W. Bush and Clinton, who ranked 21st and 19th respectively.

According to C-SPAN, Trump's highest ranking leadership categories were Public Persuasion, in which he came in at 32, and Economic Management n at 34. His lowest scores were in Moral Authority and Administrative Skills, ranking at 44 in both of those characteristics.

"I think it's important to note that this is not a scientific survey. While the 10 leadership characteristics have remained the same over the years, the participants have changed," C-SPAN Survey Project Coordinator Rachel Katz said on Wednesday while appearing on Washington Journal.

Seems like a pretty generous ranking imho.

Trump has roughly 24 hours to get out of Dodge..will he do it?
As far as I know he's free to go unless personally indicted or told by a prosecutor of an on going investigation not to leave town. Once he's personally criminally indicted, he's technically in the custody of the court, under a judge's control and would be let out on bail with a serious criminal charge. Bail conditions could include travel restrictions and a gag order concerning his case. He will most likely be served with papers and ordered to show up for a reading of the indictment and plea, then bail.

Donald still has time to make a run for it, a visit to his Scottish golf club, then Europe, then Moscow, provided Vlad will have him. I dunno if Joe could/would stop him, if he wasn't indicted, my guess is he would tell Vlad to keep the fucker. Running for it is Donald's only way out of a cell, his problem is, he has nowhere to go and no friends.

How about this fantasy sequence:

Donald makes it to Moscow.

He is considered a clear and present danger to national security.

Taken out

Biden makes CSI Miami type one liner and makes the move with the aviators.

All of a sudden the riff from the who breaks out.

Press conference,
