When should I move to 7gal final pot?


Not really following the normal mainline technique I don’t think, just doing my own thing lol

Feel free to read her history if you want hahah but that’s my main question. The plan is to flower her dead center in my 4x4 and fill the tent. Will use a scrog as well

Started off in a clay pot surrounded by autos. Approx 1gal maybe a little under that.

Coco/Peat blend. With dry amendments. She did ok. Stunted a bit from the stupid mix and me not getting the watering right but fine so far.

Wasnt paying attention to her because it’s a photo and I have unlimited time haha. Waited too long to transplant and roots were circling the pot (all bleach white and beautiful though). Pruned the roots and sprinkled with mycorrhiza. She went into a 3gal fabric pot with pure Coco and fresh amendments.

Curious how long everyone would wait until transplanting her from the 3gal to the final 7 gal pot. She’s currently livingthe CFL life in my little Veg tent. Just getting water and occasional calmag, plus whatever’s still in the soil.

my guess is a month in the 3gal pot? This photo is from a couple days ago when I stripped and retied her again

Just watch for the roots peaking out the bottom then in a week or so you know you'll be good for a transplant.

Indoors it usually is an issue of timing before too big for the pot --

You want to transplant 7 to 10 days before you flip to flower.

So when you see them getting large enough that you want to flip, make sure you have left 7 to 10 days before the flip to transplant.

This gives them enough time to acclimate and spread into the new pot. Then they can stretch well in flower.

When mainlining or manifolding there is not enough time to use up all the nutes in the 2nd pot before going to the final pot ime.

Its irrelevant though as the goal is fast healthy growth, not maxing out what the first few containers can do.

So SHORT answer is do it 10 days before you want to flip to flower.

Nice job! That is a perfectly manifolded plant.

My best advice is this - dont cut all the previous nodes growth quite so fast...if you make a mistake anywhere, having the previous bud site or 2 still there offers a backup plan! So leave a few on each branch and stay behind the leading node of each branch. When it is fully built (grown to your final veg height), then trim all the others left. I sometimes leave some of the lower nodes, as it is nice to only have 8 big colas but the other large branches that can be left will actually do just as well.

From my experience, you are "done" with the hard part, and have about 2 or 3 weeks to go before flip...again, base it on final height desired.

I plan for about a 2x stretch for any strain. The stretchiest ones are limited to about 2.5x final size because the manifold slows the vertical a bit. Lowest stretch I have had is 1.5x. Translated if you have 40 inches of height to work (excluding pot height, lights etc) flip at about 16 to 20in tall.

Fun part is ahead. Your yield will be excellent. Never had less than a 4oz and have had many beyond 10oz per plant at a total height of around 40 to 48".

I dig the idea of leaving a couple behind just in case I’ll try and remember that. My plan as of now is to either just keep training her and let her branch out however she wants from now on. OR. Say screw it and top each main branch again lmao. Prolly just let her go though.
She put down a LOT of roots VERY fast so I’m worried about the roots getting circled up in the fabric pot unless they airbprune and it takes care of itself. Not too concerned about the nutes just the roots ha. It will also be easier to train in the plastic 7gal pot lol.

I’ll measure my max heigh with the grow lights but I have a standard vivosun 4x4x72”. I was hoping to Veg her for 1-2 months with a lot of training but I’m still figuring it out. I’m new to having such a large tent. I mainlined two of these in 5gal pots in a 2x2x4 with cfl as my first grow. So this is a big jump as far as space goes lmao…

the first two got me 5.7 ounces. I kind of want to break my 1 pound cherry but that will most likely be pure luck if it happens hahah. Gotta shoot high and land somewhere in the middle…

Couple shots of the plant today. Little worried about that tiny branch. Seems to be falling behind somehow haha. Also anyone know why some of my branches look like a clone would. The nodes aren’t directly across from one other. They’re staggered.

Even though you break the apical dominance of the main cola by topping, it doesnt stop the plant from favoring some branches over others. Let it grow and do its thing. Dont let it grow too high.

Measure your usable space between the lights and top of the pots and figure what you have to work with. Flip as soon as necessary. Dont forget to subtract needed space between canopy and lights.

I would guess you have about 32" of height that is useable.

I’m just finishing my first manifold and was super annoyed by the random tiny branches too

Yours is much thicker than mine though, looks great. I’m gonna try taking off the first two nodes next time like that, it looks stronger.

When the nodes start to alternate it indicates the plant has reached sexual maturity at that point and would flower if you introduced a 12/12 light schedule.

Ahhhh god damn it Green Crack from ILGM. Ok I’ll see what I can do. I’m more concerned with getting the dry amendments schedule correct and keeping a well balanced feed than the light but very good point haha

She’s in her new home man thanks for the help. Working on moving the filter and getting the lights raised is next. She acted like she was never even moved from her pot. Happy af.
