What's everyone's thoughts about letting your pots dry out before watering? I used to let them dry out and I had decent results.
But I got blumats last year and now I see that a constant moisture is better for the plants.
Keeping your plants in the sweet spot of a moisture zone is key, not to wet not to dry, keep your plants in that spot and your golden.

Here's a couple articles that I read that have me convinced that constant moisture is best and that the "have to let your plants dry out" bro science should be in the same category as beta max tapes and laser discs.

So let's keep this shit civil if we can please..lol, I know it's a touchy subject
So let's hear what everyone's thoughts are on the subject.

I try to keep my soil moist, but when they get big it's kinda hard. Mine would prefer water everyday now for sure, but there's no way I'm watering everyday. Every 2 days is bad enough. They don't sag or anything before I water again, but the topsoil dries out even with my rice hull mulch layer. Doesn't help that my RH is usually around 10%.

Yucca is my friend. I use it all the time now. It's great stuff. It helps with the hydrophobia, lol.

You ever thought of using blumats? They sure save alot of time if you have to water every day or two.
Sips would also be a good option, I've never tried them but seem similar to blumats but they feed from the bottom

Ya, but I don't have a lot of extra room to put a raised reservoir in there. Also my water has some Ca in it that I thought might clog the holes. I don't know much about blumats, but it would be nice not to have to water so often.

I definitely can't put one in my little 2x4 veg tent, so I'd still have to water that too, lol.

blumats let's the plant decide when it wants to drink that's what makes them so good. Having blumats, it's akin to having your kid tap you on the shoulder and ask for a drink.
Instead of letting them get super thirsty before you water them again. Would you wait to let your kid drink until he/she was dehydrated? Of course not, so why do it to your plants. Not good things happen if you let your soil dry out to much
Keep it moist people, in more ways than one:blsmoke:

I have ca in my water among other things I'm sure, and I believe my water is kind of high in ppm 200-300
Mine have held up pretty good so far, I do get some sludge in my res that makes its way through the system but I just notice some gunk on the dippers that I wipe off about once a month. I bought some filters to help with the gunk. I still get it but its never plugged anything up it just guns up the dripper end it's super easy to clean off.

I have my res on a heavy duty shelf beside my tent.
I know some people were able to run both veg and bloom rooms off the same res due to them being so close to each other.
If you have any questions about blumats I'll happily answer them for you if I can.
What about those sips?
I don't know to much about them but I know the res is underneath your plant I think, like a pot set inside a tote full of water, then you just keep filling the tote I think. Anybody who knows feel free to set me straight

The sips are pretty cool, but it sounds like you have to water more than you think. I saw a thread tonight, where they had to do it daily. Looked great though. I think it was @myke .

Looks like his sips are pretty big, like a big tote inside a bigger tote.
That's probably why he hast to water more often

Yea it was me. I run 10 gal. Perfect for a normal size plant like one month veg. Needs water every 3 days or so. Perfect watering is what makes it so good and easy. I stick my moisture meter in its 9.9 every where all the time. Plants love it.

But if you veg just a little to long they take off and fill the res with roots. Now it drinks it all in one day. I have 4 going one is huge and 3 are normal. The big one takes about 4 litres a day. I should have put the drain overflow hole higher so it will hold more water.

So your one plant is organic hydro?
