Disease or Defficiency?

Hey guys,

Have a tent running with 8 Purple Punch's from Barney's Farm (all same genetics). They're grown in coco with synthetic nutrients and compost teas once per week. They get watered twice per day by hand and the tent typically runs at around 28C and >65% RH. Runoff PPM is 800 with tap water and around 1500 when fed with nutrients.

I have never had a single problem so far but these girls are starting to have some issues on the lower leaves.

The reason I am asking for help is I don't think it looks like an atypical nutrient deficiency. I'm thinking it might be a bit of phosphorous and nitrogen but the plants are still being fed both. The reason I am posting here is that the tiny buds at the bottom are beginning to turn black.

I've never had a problem with bud rot in this tent and I am starting to wonder if it might be taking hold on top of the deficiencies or if this is something else entirely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no such thing as a perfect plant. You're always going to get leaves that wilt. It's natural. Pay attention and watch the overall health of the plant. Don't worry about a few funky leaves. She's fine.

Also, I'm more worried about the smaller buds turning brown without the leaves around them turning brown.

Top buds are premium. Lower buds are what you use to make oil, honey, tincture. Think of the buds as grades. What buds that would be shitty to smoke because of the texture. Make a pan of brownies with them. Save the best formed buds for smoking.

Good shit brah. Our scrogs look very similar except I defol'd mine (slightly too heavy but was trying to target lower nodes and removed the entire bottom half to minimize larf)

In terms of the inner nodes - looks like they aren't getting any/enough light (normal for a canopy as thick as yours)

In terms of the leaf - looks like some n tox mixed with some other problems. Was this a leaf on the lower portion of the plant?

I'd lay off the nitrogen, that's what is giving you the dark green / oily looking leaves. I feed Lotus Bloom and Lotus Boost in flower. Bloom is 5-10-14, Boost is 1-15-30.

Do you know what your NPK looks like when feeding?

thanks for stopping by man. Send some pics of your scrog! My last run I defoliated too much and this one I think I did too little. What cultivar are you running right now?

I think you’re right about the nitrogen looking back on pictures - it’s strange because I’ve been using less than I am supposed too. I make my own synthetic nutrients and I’m using 10-41-35. I also add worm casting teas and perhaps nitrogen was leaching out from that.

The weird effects are under the canopy where it gets almost no light and is what I assumed was causing the issues initially.

What began to worry me was the fact that the very tiny larf (that are in the dark) were turning almost black while the leaves around the larf wasn’t.

i am more worried about fungus/mold than deficiencies considering I’m a week away from cutting out all added nutrients.

Yeah the casting tea adds N that I know. I don't grow in coco though, not sure how much N you should be adding. But to me looks like right now it's too much.

Cal mag deficiency, when it's a coco grow u need to add cal mag

If the coco goes dry good chance u will burn them

Yeah the casting tea adds N that I know. I don't grow in coco though, not sure how much N you should be adding. But to me looks like right now it's too much.

How many weeks into flower are these?

They’re half way through week 7 right now and they usually finish after week 9. Even with the extra nitrogen it doesn’t explain the bottom buds turning black though. Strange behavior.

Lol the coco is buffered and they get lots of Calcium and Magnesium every day.

You're seeing a P deficiency in your lower leaves from lack of light penetration . I'd clean up a lot of the vegetation under your net. So it's either clean up the skirts or harvest in 2 stages what survives. Nice looking grow.

Phosphorous deficiency was my initial idea but the plant should be getting enough of it. So are you saying that a lack of light can cause a phosphorus deficiency?

Seems counterintuitive at first, since there's no light there should be no growth therefore no deficiencies in the lower region.

Or perhaps it's phosphorous deficiency mixed with dying leaves from a lack of light.

This also made sense to me as the buds would be much higher in phosphorous than its surrounding leaves hence the plant would take from there. But it's always nice to have good conversations about topics in the community.

Always wondered about this, heard from several people that very dry coco is dangerous. Do you know what it is about dry coco that makes it that much more dangerous than dry soil per se?
