Strangely enough a couple weeks ago I decided to do a side by side comparison and see what happens lol. So I have 8 cuttings that I took off my big outdoor plants as I was cleaning up their undercarriages put 4 in one pot and 4 in the other. One week ago as they began flower I stripped 4 of them pretty aggressively and left the other 4 alone . They are getting the exact same treatment other than the defol. I suppose time will tell

Outdoors i believe you can get by with less or no defoliating...indoors i find it necessary...my plants would be a bushy tangled mess if I didn't thin em out...I like light penetration and airflow

You find it easier to eat with your hands? Or with just 2 stubs and your hands cut off.
The point is. If you have to defoliant to promote anything. IMO your doing something wrong. People can do whatever they choose. But in all reality. Your really hurting the plant at the end of the day. Whatever your intended desire or results are. Your injuring the plant and your taking away a vital part for survival.

the best bud comes from a health vigorous plants, mature and ready for transition in hormones. Not a stick with no leaves. This argument will go till the end of time But the flower iv grown and seen. Do not and will not Ever come from Charly brown trees.

I think if my light intensity was higher & environment was more controlled I wouldn't do it like BK is saying. I do think defoliation is kind of a cheat in a way to get away with not having the proper/best conditions, like how it would help with airflow & not getting mold

I do it in veg as an alternative to topping & lst, it makes the lowers catch up to the main cola. It does kind of stunt the plant to grow slower so I'm only doing it to mother plant for clones

I take the leaves right off the main stem to each branch just as they switch to flower.
And any larger/older leaves blocking light to branches and buds below,
Leaving the top 3-5 nodes mostly alone. Really only removing selectively to let light in.
Been growing from seed for 30+ years
But only started popping the devils lettuce for 4-
since I’ve been allowed legally.
