When to switch from a seedling light to a full spectrum light?

Iv grown up to 5 nodes under a single cfl.
And grown entire plants from seed up under 500 watt HO t5s.


To me it sounds like your drowning your roots. How often are you watering? And how much water?

I know for a fact. I have over watered my last set of seeds. This last set, I have tried to be very careful to not do that l. So I am only giving them about a tablespoon full every evening when the lights come on, and again if they need it in the morning, before the lights go, and I leave for work.

Nope. At 4 weeks, they're rocking and about 12" tall with 4-5 nodes and lots of roots. I'm feeding full strength at week 6. The pot goes right in the ground.

Normal household florescent lighting. T5s would be best to help keep them shorter, but it is what it is. I grow outdoor, and they catch up plenty once they're in the ground.

Admittedly, I trash the weaklings and stick the performers in the field. But the most important thing is that they be healthy so they don't stall when they go in the hole.

You need to get the pots wet so the roots can break through. Put them in a tray and let them wick up the water. But only water a day after the water disappears.

Sounds like your still over watering. Let that soil go completely dry before watering. Root development is the most important thing to establish. Without that. Plant can’t drink or feed. Which then. The plant can’t grow. Which creates slow and stunted growth.

If it helps at all. This is what iv been doing for over a decade now. Iv simplified the best I could

Prep soil. Damp. Very moist but not dripping out the bottom any more.

I then stab a hole in the dirt with anything like a pen or chop stick. Just deep enough around 1/4inch


What I do is sow directly into my soil. No pre germination (this is what I do)
2-3 days to pop. But I get my strongest survivors out the bunch.

I don’t water until seeds are pipped and unfolded fully and soil is dry completely. Sometimes almost 10 days depending on air flow and temperature. That’s my exact step for step. Nothing extra. No humidity domes. No pre germination in a glass or paper towel.

Yes, your knowledge is very helpful.
I have done the germination in a paper towel method. And then planted into the media as you have described above. And then watered as I have shared already.
I have placed them under my full spectrum light last night. And put them in a tray with a 1/4" of water as another member shared. To water from the bottom. I will not, water for a few days to see what happens. And continue to follow the advice from y'all here, you have shared with me here.
