Seed collection popping after 5 years

I think as per expert advic
I

i don’t know dude. That’s why I’m asking. Iv been looking online as well thru google search. Not much. But there is some info on it. Like I said. I wanted to know for my own reasons. Because I will continue to buy more and make more.
I think as per others expert advice, if you are storing seeds for a wee years like 5 or 10 like me who just wants to collect seeds are better off putting the sealed unopen packs in an airtight container and freezed, id probably wrapped it in towel, placed desicant, grains of rice and whatever you could think off to avoid moisture.

On the other hand as per this thread and the advice of familliar names that might have more experienced than me and makes alot sense and basic knowledge wise (thawed chicken method and what not), the ones you plan to grow per season is better off to put in a separate airtight container and placed in the fridge. When planning to open to let it rest for 12 hours in room temp before taking it back to the fridge.

In my cased i opened a pack and placed it back in the freezer without giving extra protection that might have damaged the seeds. Though i might have missed something important as i am barely trying to remember all the basics again.

So what I’m doing is shorting the life of my seeds? I just have a box I keep everything in that goes in my cab

I wouldnt say shortening it, if you have stable temp on your place and can still popped seeds with no problem then i wouldnt fix a thing, ive heard people who stored there seeds in a basement for 30 years with no problem, personally wont even think of doing it base on where i lived. But then its common knowledge that colder temp can longer the expiration date of just about anything

On my freezer storing thats an advice i got a long time ago, again whether there is scientific evidence behind it i couldnt remember. Fortunately my seeds still popped except for pack that i opened and the 3 seeds that i might have damage along the way for not properly storing them when i used some of the seeds 3 years ago.

Heres a picture of some seeds that i pollinated way back about 10 years ago, i didnt bother storing them properly and directly put them in the freezer on a sealed zip lock. If i could remember properly i tried popping them with less germination rate. While my sealed breeders packaging seeds inside my airtight container freezed popps in 2-3 days, i rarely takes them out of the freezer, at least with some advice i need some modification works i got just recently.

Lol from what strains did you collect those pollens?
I've been pollen-chucking for 20 years so have collected pollen from dozens of strains by now. A few weeks ago I dug up a male in my outdoor garden then stuck him on his side in a small pot to put in the bedroom closet under a couple of 9W LED light bulbs on a 12/12 timer. Parchment paper under him to catch the pollen and got about half a 2g vial full after cleaning through my 180µ kief screen. I must have had a bit of loose pollen on me when I went down to the grow room and just yesterday found a few mature seeds on one of my flowering girls that are at 48 days 12/12 now. Spotted a couple of fat calyxes on the Kush girl too.

Right now I have a branch in a mug of water from the CBD girl downstairs that I sprayed with STS and it finally started growing male flowers so I can make fem seeds with this. You don't need to keep the whole male plant growing to do this. I've done at least 20 just in water and it works fine. Chlorinated tap water with a decent ppm works AOK. I'll use half RO water and half our non-potable 400ppm tap water from our dugout. Sometimes the end of the stem will harden over and block uptake but just take it out and snip off a tiny bit of the end and it's good to go.

Tin foil used this time and I prefer it over the paper. Pollen slides off easier. Shiny side up!

I'm wondering if hitting it with some more STS will get more 'nanners popping out at this stage if there's any STS pros out there who could chime in. Not a lot of them at this point and I need enough to do a whole decent sized plant for hundreds of seeds.

I also had the good fortune of knowing dealers from the 70's who collected beans from pollinated lambs bead, Colombian golds and reds, old hash plant strains. He used to cut his weights back when a nickel sack was only $5.00 and 4 finger ounce of seeded Jamaican Tops were $15 a lid

I keep my beans in old 35 mm film canisters with some cotton on the bottom, then seeds over that another cotton ball to cover and a desiccant pack which doesn't contact the seed but is required in removing the excess moisture. This container is placed within a larger container containing another desiccant pack to establish a barrier and extract moisture while in the freezer.
To Begin germination:
After a dark warming period of 24hrs to re-acclimate, I make a distilled water soak mixed with some molasses, kelp and super thrive to introduce the carbohydrates and vitamins they need for energy to sprout...I m not claiming 100% after such a long sleep, but my revival is good enough to sprout some true original strains.

Since the last 10 plus years of my seeds being in fridge ,90% germinate just in water til tails show then into whatever I'm doing at the time ,mainly soil runs.
The seeds I had just left in drawer had nearly zero germination rate after 10 years and I try every sort of trick I know lol fridge for me

I swear you learn something new everyday no matter
More than 15 years of doing this, im still open for great advice. I still consider myself as noob, as i dont do this as often as before. Mainly because its illegal on a country where i moved lol. But yeah have helped a lot of friends with cancer rather than making 1000usd a week Right attitude with skills can get you far. Rollitup active long time members never dissapoints

Lol inused them superthrives all growth stage too...from seeds to finish. Do you clip or sandpaper the sides of the hardened edge of the seeds?

Same here bro. The ammount of money ive wasted on unsprouted seeds. Ive done all kindz of tricks sprouting seeds, will only used my ol reliable incubator box, fridge or freezer for me.

Nice which ones are those and how old are the seeds?
My last purchase was 5 years ago, so some of those were much older. 5 jaws purple fever (free packs) i dont dare touching the ones i bought until i really have the time to grow, 3 dutch passion durban poison opened pack from 2018. And one humbolt 707 truthband one of my faves to smoke. Was gonna do RDWC with them but i havent set it up yet, did placed them in my temp grow room, that will be replaced by a real grow tent lol. as i was only trying to grow durban and check random packs if my collection were damage due to freezer storing, thank God 75% still popping, 3 were not sealed properly when i used it 3 years ago. definitely upgrading my vault, buying lots of airtight container to be placed from container after another container.

Update: im left with 3 durban poison female, 2 purple fever female, and 1 elephant stomper female. Definitely a lot of dialing in since i had to to remember all the basics and what not. All worth the while, change the lights to HLG Scorpion Diablo, using 3 year old advanced nutes, mollases and banana tea in between. Ladies loved the nutes without a single burn on leaves. 1 top with lots of heads, although the elephant stomper female isnt as impressive as the male
