Weed in Canada has ZERO value

Could you expand on this? Dying for some new genetics lol
Locally there are a ton of genetics available. I'd probably estimate 30 strains going around the BC area. Problem is they are the same strains going around for the last few years.

There are Canadians home growers buying packs, finding great keepers and sharing photos all over social media. Reach out to some of them and I bet you will eventually find someone willing to share the cut. A few facebook groups are swapping clones too, reddit, instagram all good sources. If you don't mind paying a premium for something no one has theres Strainly.io . A few of those guys are willing to ship to Canada.

750 I saw was for a ten pack and if I recall it was rockstar or tuna, one or the other. Everything I see and everyone I know is not hand trimming... just touching up buds by hand coming out of a trimpal or twister. Rockstar is considered mids lol? Serious question... Is it considered mids because its so common. In my circle its either rockstar, death bubba, pink kush, tuna or various og's have been the staples for years. Like I said same stuff would go for 1200+ no problem pre pandemic.
Not that a good rockstar is mids absolutely not, just that it's so ubiquitous in the market and there are so many poorly grown harvests of it that it becomes difficult to move for premium pricing, death bubba and tuna are in similar situations as well. The cuts themselves are not mids, they just get pumped out of warehouse grows so often that it either depresses prices or makes things more difficult to move in the market. I forget where but Breeder Steve touched on this as well, where a strains popularity with cash croppers can actually cause it to gain a poor reputation year-over-year regardless of the underlying genetics.

This is coming from personal experience no one that I know, that smokes an oz or 1/2 oz a week or so cares about fancy flower names or what's the hottest new one out there. If it smells good whether original skunk smell, a kush smell or fruity stuff and it smokes good they don't care what the name is. Most that I know want hybrids no one that I know wants pure sativas and only a few want pure indicas.

this will all last about a year or so, then the new will wear off, and most of the people trying to grow will realize the shit the produce is...shit...and give up, because thats what people do, they try to get rich, realize it's hard work, then quit.
then the prices will normalize, the black market will rebound, and be stronger than it ever was, once people figure out the dispensaries are full of overpriced horseshit

i doubt you can even find "pure" indica or sativa genetics anymore, without having some stockpiled from years ago. "breeders" have been just smashing together any strains that they like even a little into something they assume will carry all the genetics they like, and none of the negative genetic traits...
i blame the strain hunters....

Its getting totally insane, the black market for growers at least in BC has all but collapsed. I'd say maybe 20% of growers can move their stuff and only because some of them are taking $400/lb lol

I'm trying to slim down my shop and returning stuff like HID lighting and digital ballast to my suppliers and bring in LEDs and one of them said its crazy how many stores are trying to return inventory to keep going lol.

Even gifting weed to friends and family has collapsed vs what it was like before COVID. really weird that legalization maybe a little differenve but COVID eliminated 60%+ of the black market here.

I don't feel like covid affected weed prices here but honestly I am out of touch. I feel like it's the cheap Bc lbs that have been dropping the price here. I've heard as low as $700/lb here now. That's green house that I know of.

Online retail prices on the higher end flower and concentrates have held pretty steady, somebody out there is making money.

Warehouse grows of salty mids of the usual suspects (pink kush, rockstar, romulan, etc) are getting kicked in the teeth right now though. The only guys that are going to survive are the ones working directly with retailers rather than a broker or WM reseller. That extra hand in the middle scoops up almost all the profit margin.

Again it will be cyclical, prices will drop, guys will get out of the game and prices go up again... around and around we go. Border opening up one-way only didn't really do shit for prices even though good indoor in CA is pushing $2500 CAD.

I've been growing steady for the last 20 years but never got into selling so never became dependant on pot for an income. Prices are now starting to become what they should be in an open market tho the big LPs have based their projections on past BM pricing so like plenty of BM growers are are feeling the burn.

Give it 10 more years and OZs of good bud will be going for $20 like it was when I first started smoking pot 50+ years ago and you got lots of free seeds with it. :)

What goes around comes around and it doesn't bother me one bit that many of the greedy bastards, especially the big LPs are now hurting. Feel bad for the caregiver types that needed to make some cash to support their efforts to help those in real need tho.

Good cannabis will always be expensive, regardless of time or location.

Look at the alcohol industry, you can get a $13 bottle or a $130 bottle of vodka. Both contain the exact same amount of the exact same ethanol molecule. The market will pay for refinement and craft abilities.

Even when everybody was screaming about WA/OR prices being so low they were still selling out of $65 1/8ths at the dispensaries.

Your always have a unique position to observe this stuff. Your take is interesting. Hmmmm. So your saying that the mid size to larger guys are folding? What about the newer home growers since legalization? Are those new growers quitting yet. My local shop seems very busy. But with what level of customer I'm not sure.
So where is all the weed smoked coming from I'm wondering. Who is filling the need? Home growers supplying themselves?
Is is all going to the legal market. The legal stores in my town look like ghost town stores whenever I drive by. The word is they are hurting huge. WAY over saturated.
Where's the weed coming from guys?

50% of my customers since the fist price drop about 3-4 months into COVID closed for good. These are guys who have jobs and careers and its was just extra money, these are 10-40 lighters. I've known most of them since 2002 when I started in a hydro store. Some stopped growing untill they see things change price wise.

Home growers is nothing and I can't depend on those. A home growers might spend an initial say $1500 for a set up where I make about $400 profit then wont come back for 6 months to buy more or if they do they'll come back to get answers to questions or buy a $100 in nutes and are gone. I'd need 100's of those growers to replace even 1-2 normal/medical growers. I keep telling people the 1-4 light marker was huge up to up 2009 where weed was $3000/lb and lost of those were growing in condos/high rises lol 1 light and 2lb from Juicy Fruit and you got 4-5 months worth of mortgages.

There are certain communities that still grow huge amounts and dump it on the market for $400/lb. I talked to one guy yesterday who I haven't seen for months and he down sized to 15 lights from 100's and he says he knows micro LP's that are licensed that he knows the owners personally that are dumping 100's of Lb into the market since the cops/gov are not looking atm, that's why is hasn't gone dry yet.

Some growers that use to sell oz's and 1/4lbs their sales have tanked too. They were up when CERB was in full blast as people had free money.

I hea6r confliciting info on the legal stores here. I've sat infront of a couple and didn't see anyone going in but some customers told me they seen lots of people in there.

At least in BC the cultivation market has always been extremely segregated by race/nationality, online sales and delivery services made even the supply chains themselves segregated. Vietnamese/Hmong growers running large indoor warehouse ops are probably hurting the most right now, Punjabi growers further out in the valley generally have their own supply chains selling direct to end user online or to small resellers that service their friends/community a quarter oz at a time. They also seem to be more into the edibles/vape-pens that have a higher margin than straight flower. Caucasian growers pretty much run the entire gamut but often have longer supply chains before getting to the end user so are more affected by bulk pricing rather than retail pricing. Lots of people feeling the pinch right now but the demand is definitely there if you can differentiate either yourself or your crop.

[Don't mean for this to be racist/xenophobic so my apologies if it reads that way, few people rarely touch on this in interviews, podcasts, etc]

Probably best to hunker down, keep the lights on but I wouldn't be putting my neck out too far right now building out new 40-light rooms until pricing recovers.

This is literally their ONLY option right now if they are just a micro cultivator and don't have a sales ammendment to sell direct to province/retailers. Very few large LP's are buying ANY flower right now, let alone at competitive prices that were forecast for the micro producers.

Nothing racist about pointing out how different groups conduct their businesses. I grew up in Richmond and lived in the Fraser Valley for a lot of years before being stupid enough to move up north to Bumf**k, AB 20 years ago. We didn't have a brown kid in school until about grade 5 back in the 60s. His parents were Chinese immigrants who had a big farm in Richmond and sponsored the baseball team I played on and my dad coached. Hard ball and not that sissy softball crap. :)

Everything thru there was originally settled and logged out by European immigrants who eventually sold out to the Chinese who did the same for the East Indians.

Had a good laugh at your user name. That's the speed of my dancing these days. :D

Hoping to be out in the valley come Oct to visit my soon to be 94 yo mom and other family while going up to our cabin near Lillooet and getting some good Coho fishing in at the Vedder with #1 son.

My happiest moments are when I drive by the legal schwaggs stores and the entire parking lot is empty except for one employee car in the back....hahahahaha. My town is so flooded with these rat holes that it's not that far in between laughs.
I've still never set foot in one as I know it would be a disaster.......cops called I'd bet.
I stay out and laugh and laugh and laugh
Payin the bills much stores???...lol
Plus a max 25% margin. Good luck-o..............not

This is very spot on for BC. I've seen mids going for as low as 200 per unit and beautiful quads selling consistently for over 1600 all this year. With this recent price drop, guys growing mids in huge warehouses might not be able to find buyers but if you can grow some real nice herb you will always be able to move it. If you can consistently grow a high trip, keep cost down, be efficient and develop your own market you will be fine, especially the home grower who doesn't have a huge lease to pay for every month. I've seen real nice trips going for 900-1200 all year and if you know what you're doing you can produce that for less than 250 a unit. There is still plenty of profit on the table imo.

I suspect when the border opens up, the market will stabilize back to pre-covid days. I read an article the other day that over 70,000KG was seized at the US/Canadian border from may 2020 - may 2021... and thats 70k more than than they typically would find in that time frame. I don't think the big brokers moving packs down south are buying right now, thus, Canadian market is flooded and that's an understatement.

The writing is on the wall folks.
Cannabis in Canada has almost zero value. I don't care how good it is........it's just a matter of time.
The crash is upon us.

hahahaha...good luck legal weed....cuz unless you sell it outside of Canada...your toast.
How about we just grow for ourselves and then that does not matter. Easy. :D
