You guys can argue it back and forth all you want. I have 4 detailed grows over at the Farm, all grown the exact same way. The only thing that changes each time is the strain, and nothing else. As I've told others, I have nothing to prove at this point. I just keep doing the same thing over and over.
In flowering I place the LED's at 20 inches above the tallest plant, and I place the tallest plant on the perimeter of the room. In veg, I start at around 40 inches, and just let the plants slowly grow towards the LED's without adjusting it. Everyone runs theirs at different heights, some closer, and some farther away. I'm in my 5th grow with the Gavita's, I think I have it down pat at this point.
The Medic Grow Fold 8 I won in a contest. When I got it, I took it out of the box and turn it on for a few hours and tested the PPFD with a meter. Their photon claims seem to be spot on. Other than these having fewer diodes that the Gavita, and having a dimmer which I really like- the LED's are probably pretty comparable. In 2 years my opinion might change though. I bought the Gavita's because of the quality of the rest of their products. I figured that would carry over to their LED's, and it does.
Lastly, people have asked me how many branches each plant carries. I normally get around 18 branches per plant. It may not look it, but I've detailed it on some of my earlier grows- actually taking pictures and numbering each branch. I've shown lots of pics at the pot level which shows the lolipopping- look for those and count the branches.
"Been eyeballin this Medicgrow Spectrum x rig …. planning a new 5x5 ( kids finally taking a hike )"..............people that I've seen who own these really like them. The "Y" fixture is a slave to the "X". Meaning you need the X, and can buy additional Y's but all are controlled by the X. A very nice LED too.
