Please don't mistake me for someone defending internal combustion powered vehicles, other than as interesting museum pieces. I'm a fan of Union Pacific's 4-8-8-4 Big Boy stream locomotive too but I wouldn't advocate for such behemoths to be in regular service today.

In fact, some of America's earliest fleets of delivery trucks were electric, running on hard rubber tires and carrying whatever freight they could in excess of the tons and tons of lead acid batteries they had to haul. Some of those trucks ran for decades.

The battery weight vs useful load compromise is just that and as we have been seeing for a decade now, we will continue developing ever better batteries until our grandkids wonder what it was we ever saw in those noisy, stinking, leaking diesel powered trucks- including not just Freightliners and Kenworths, but the Ford, Chevy and Dodge pickups sitting in millions of driveways now.

And you have NEVER seen me advocate for it; just because a thing can be done does not make it a good idea. Witness: skateboards lol Hydrogen can be run in current internal combustion engines as a way to reduce emissions while battery powered trucks, tractors and heavy duty off road machinery can be fully converted. This hydrogen can be made from renewable sources, breaking the connection between fossil fuels and these vehicles. It's about availability until production capacity for full electric versions is established, hence "bridge fuel".

Try to keep up.

This is a thread about electric cars. Hydrogen is a dumb idea for electric cars. I know you can't understand this, but context matters.

There's a company in Austria called Obrist that is using Teslas as a testbed for its hybrid powertrain technology - they have Teslas that run on gasoline.

A few years aback there was a hybrid that had a small gas engine that ran a generator that powered the electric motors that moved the car. It didn't store the power in batteries, other than a small one for cranking. I can't remember if it was for sale, or just a prototype. It was in the 60-75 mpg range.

This is called a series hybrid. Chevy Volt/Opel Ampere (first generation), Fisker Karma, Cadillac ELR are all examples of this type.

The car you describe has more or less replaced the transmission with a generator and electric motor. The battery is very useful for load matching, which is why most hybrids have one.

It turns out that converting all of the engine's rotational energy into electricity and then back into torque is less efficient than direct drive. This is why parallel hybrids are more prevalent. Both are far less efficient and more complex than battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

I did a lot of research before we bought the '05 Prius, but haven't really looked into it since. By the way, the Prius C is not nearly the car a regular Prius is. We have a '15 and I really dislike it. It's like what a college kid would drive.

Keep pimping your woman at those sleazy motels, make sure you shake her down to ensure she doesn't keep any tips and look out for popo.

Next time don't let her keep 25%, Tyler. Maybe more physical abuse is required. The environment depends on it!

Good thing your family took over custody of your kid, otherwise you might have to pay for her food.

Everyone has electric vehicles either being delivered or rolling off the assembly line. Tesla, Ford, Nissan, Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Volvo, etc... The field is getting crowded with many choices. Which is great for both the consumer and to advance the technology.
