GreenHouse Seeds - poor seed germination

4 years ago I bought a pack of seeds from them (5), none of them germinated. Recently, I decided to give them a chance again, I bought 5 x Herer and 5 x Lemon Skunk. This time the Herers did a great job, they all sprouted very quickly. However, LemonSkunk seeds did not germinate at all. Is there something wrong with this company? Recently I read that a few years ago the best people left there and since then some people have been complaining about the poor germination of seeds.

Seeds from 4 years old need to have a nice place to keep it live and nice, and this conditions can't be break for to long, I mean, it can go from store to your house in 2, 3 days jumping from truck to truck, van, etc, and ofc how it was store @SHOP, 4 years is a window time risky if seeds are not well stored/cared, and not only for cannabis.

I'm not a very disciplinate guy, mainly I like to have my seeds 24hr soaked in water before put them into jiffys, then I put the jiffys in a wardrobe/closet where they are in total dark and over 18 celsius degree with some humidity, but just that, some humidity, I like to put in the pot asap, but never till it have at least 2cm tall, and always when the real flowers born, dont let them in the dark with real leaf out, as son as they take light (real leafs) as son the magic start.

A small linguistic misunderstanding.
Four years ago, I bought seeds and used them all. Recently, I bought another one from the same company and again the seeds from one package did not germinate. This is really a very bad result.

Recently, I stopped soaking the seeds in water. An experienced farmer from my country was doing an experiment to test different germination methods. He used 100 seeds for this.
- soaked in water 24h - 75% germinated
- left on a paper damp towel germinated 100%
- put immediately into the soil germinated 100%
I changed the method to paper towels, but for now I have too few germination attempts to say that the sycosity of the seeds has become better.

This guy said that if the seeds are old, then soaking can help germinate.
However, for some fresh seeds, this is not good and may not germinate if they have been soaked.

How you stored them? You need to store them A) dry B) cool C) dark to have good germination after years.
Any violation of ABC decreases the germination-rate!

Greenhouse is very good. I never had a single one not coming up!

Soaking is no different than wet paper towel until the seeds start to split. Just because it's swimming in water doesn't mean it will get saturated more.

What helps the most with older seeds is scuffing them, so that water penetrates easier.
I always soak until I see the seam splitting, which means the tap will be emerging soon. That's when they go in the dirt. I've had great germination rates that way

As far as I can tell, the only one that said something about soaking was me, and I dint said you to soack old beans , I said that this is how I do most of the times. For old beans, all I did the few times I need it, was scuffed like someone already tell you, and it's a very old technique, or at least I did hear of it many years ago, I can't tell how secure this method is, because like I said, I did it few times.

I do not store seeds, the ones I bought 4 years ago were all used then. None of the 5 Herers sprouted.
Two weeks ago I bought 10 Herers from them again, they all sprouted.
But the whole pack of 5 Lemon Skunk did not give any signs of life.
I understand that not every seed germinates, however, it cannot be that you buy a pack of seeds and they are all dead.
You buy again a few years later and again they are all dead. I like the prices of GreenHouse Seeds,
maybe I'll give them a chance again, especially since the recently bought more Herers all germinated after 24 hours and look very viable.

So you say a new pack of 5 lemon skunk have a not a single one sprouted. Was it the original Breeder packaging or have they been re-packed? Do you know how old thesee seeds were (age) when you bought it? Where you bought it from?

I would contact the dealer. Thats not normal.... maye they were very old or they catched moisture or light at the dealers storing. Seeds are very sensitive! When the dealer stores the orginal sealed breeders packages in a refridgerator, they should sproud very good!

Writing: "This guy said that if the seeds are old, then soaking can help germinate"
I had in my mean a guy who was doing an experiment with various germination methods.

PS. writing in English about technical matters of cultivation is too difficult for me, I have to use google translate, which is why sometimes there are language mistakes.

Check this information out from their website:
iv. Customers located in countries where it is legal to germinate our seeds are covered by our germination guarantee. Green House Seed Company Guarantees the viability of all of its seeds. In the unlikely event that our seeds do not germinate, we require our customers to take pictures of the entire germination process, to return the ungerminated seeds to us including the packaging and the proof of purchase. Every germination complaint is taken very serious, we will not replace customers seeds who do not follow our germination instructions and we will not replace a customers seeds if they do not return the original packaging with the non viable seeds to us. Please use the contact form on our website if you have germination problems only if you are eligible for a replacement.

v. We strictly do not send cannabis seeds to the United States of America as it is strictly prohibited by the US Federal law. Cannabis Seeds are still classified as illegal in the USA. The DEA still considers any cannabis seeds with traceable levels of THC, unauthorized cannabis seeds for sale and are considered to be illegal. For these reasons we also do not answer any questions related to our cannabis seeds to persons located in the United States.
Contact them, if you:
- are eligible for a replacement (legal country)
- documented the germination proccess,
- proceeded with their instructions,
- can send them you're originale packaging and non-viable seeds before.

In that cases you get a replacement... straight from them, skipping the dealer... you don't even need a proof of purchase according to the terms and conditions!

Mine always sprouted, theres other dutch breeders that i have sometimes 10-20% not sprouting.... I literally never experienced that with Greenhouse Seed, 100% always and I store them over multiple years, still they are good.

I cant say for now, since my purchases happened years ago. But i see no reason only because some guys left the company the quality drops. Greenhouse seeds is the world leading breeder in my eyes, since 30 years now!

Who likes them too?

50 Cent, Alanis Morrissett, Alicia Keys, Bio Hazard, Black Crowes, Bon Jovi, Cypress Hill, Eminem, Fun Luvin Criminals, Gwen Stefani, Kevin Spacey, Lenny Kravitz, Limp Bizkit, Ludacris, Metallica, Method Man, Mike Tyson, Pierce Brosnan, Snoop Dogg, Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, Wu Tang Clan, Xzibit and many more :D

Check their facebook ;)

But BTW:... NOBODY in the world is eligible in fact for replacement, except the netherlands, but in fact it's complicated there too.... its still illegal for the purpouse of growing weeds aka sprout them for growing marihuana.... these are just souvenirs. lol. They dont send US, they dont send Canada...
In fact they send nobody....still guaranteiing! ;) The companies with LEGAL-LICENCE, for say the gov themselves, like in Israel, or Bedrocan.... they get replacement! SURE! But nobody private customer, no single Canadian gets.....

The seeds were packed in the original packaging of the manufacturer. It's hard to say how the seller kept the seeds, and I doubt he would admit to poor storage. There are a lot of seed shops in my country and sales are very high. I doubt that decent stores buy seeds from the manufacturer and keep them in stock for years. The only thing I suspect is the possibility of directing slightly worse seeds to Central and Eastern Europe. I have already experienced such situations in the case of car parts. Here the market is less demanding than in Western Europe, people are more accepting of inferior goods and worse customer service.
Maybe I will write to this store, but it is difficult to expect an honest reaction. I used to think about buying seeds directly from a foreign producer, but I have to provide personal data for the shipment.

Yes, I know that GHS offers dead seed replacement. But I still can't accept new ones, because it is not possible to send them without giving an address or showing ID cards. by the addressee.
Maybe I'll talk to the store from which I bought the seeds, it's a pity that I threw away the packaging and proof of purchase.

is the possibility of directing slightly worse seeds to Central and Eastern Europe.
If you mean that they send bad seeds they know of, intentionally to any customer. I doubt that for any breeder.
They have enough of good seeds, it's not that they are running low. They want happy costumers and if customers write bad recension or show up a forum complaining about seeds not sprouting... do you think they WANT THAT?
Every single breeder tries everything to make it work and there is a long of things that can go wrong after the sealed package leaves the breeder for shipment to the shops.

It could be intense light with uv (sunlight), broken seal, extreme high humidity, wet package, high temperatures..... man what does the breeder or anyone knoe what actually did go wrong.

The seeds wear no digital display that shows "im ok" and "im bad". I bet 99% of the seeds leave the breeders are in fine state, they check their quality themselfs to ensure that (like i said they have masses of seeds, they are not low on it)... and 99% of those who not sprout at the customer do it for a reason that is not the fault of the breeder..... generally speaking!

Everytime somebody experience such, its undermining the repuation of a breeder. Breeders do all they can, but this is a organic living beeing... not a carpart that is "manufactured"... conditions can make them go BAD. High temperatures is the easiest!

Sure it is possible that there left a dead charge the breeder for whatever mistake the breeder... the 1%.

Still they dont do that on purpose, they trash what they know is bad... but they cannot check every single seed... they can only grab and check some samples.

Read this article:

I would not have paid attention to the information from this description, if it were not for the fact that I have just experienced problems with GHS seeds. I've never had a situation in any store where a whole pack of seeds didn't germinate, except for two GHS purchases.

"Green House Seed Company’s reputation was built, in large part, on its carefully crated genetics, with the seed bank winning multiple cannabis cups over the years. So it is perplexing that such a company would now have so many complaints about the quality of its seeds. A couple of Green House’s original key breeders are now no longer with the company, which could certainly be a factor.

In recent years, a concerning number of buyers have experienced germination issues, including seeds failing to sprout, plants growing up weak, deformed, or hermaphrodite, or successfully-grown weed lacking the expected potency. Another factor that some buyers find off-putting is the colorful coating Green House covers its seeds in. The company states this is for the purpose of telling different strains apart, but it seems that most buyers do not care for this method."

They still rate 9/10 seeds..... the rating numbers complain about "payment" more than aboutthe seeds, but the review complains only about the seeds not reflecting that at all. Doesn't make sense to me.

Check the Strains of the Month on thebottom
"Black Widow" that reffering to Greenhouse Seeds genetic... follow the link, check it! :)

A little bit higher they state:
#1 Cheap Strain:
Black Widow Feminized

That on the other hand reffers to the Cropkings strain.

Strange while they say Cropking is a better alternative than GHS....

My experience with Greenhouse Seeds is very good all the time.

Ive tried:

Moby Dick
White-Widow
White Rhino
Lemon Skunk
Super Lemon Haze
Chemdog
Train Wreck

All sprouted, all we're damn good!
The company states this is for the purpose of telling different strains apart, but it seems that most buyers do not care for this method."
Yes thats correct and you only get those when you buy a mix-pack...thats because they are packed near each other and when you open it, so you dont know shits anymore.

I've never bought a mix-pack... and I never had a single painted seed from them!

You would care for NOT choosing that method if you had bought and opened a mix pack and then have no clue which seed was which strain.

It's not easy to see WHY thats useful:
gh-indicag.jpg

The color of the seed is mentioned with the label on the package.... so once you opened that package up, removed tham from the pack, you are still sure which one is which.

Otherwise you dont.... you then would have 5 seeds not knowing shits. Because you could not tell the difference with a mix-pack! It's ONLY for the mix-packs! Why? BECAUSE the customer complaint about not beeing able to differ once they took them out of the package...

Don't buy mix-packs and you don't get painted seeds. SIMPLE

Stop playing as if were something "negative"... you dont even get what its meant for!

Usually those sites have deals and promote certain breeders getting provisions writing better articles/reviews for them than the concurrents, dont forget that!

Often those sites are maintained from fellowsof a breeder compoany, to favor theirs. Often breeder buy good reviews foir themselves, like buying amazon recensions. Dont believe that! Make your own experience and if the seedsdont sprout...f irst question yourprocess, could you have made an mistake?
