Building My New GrowRoom

Hey All...

I'm building a second grow room and wanted to share the details and get some feedback from the gang!

My current grow room is 8'x8' with two(2) 600w digital HPS systems. It's got a large can carbon filter, and a 465cfm inline fan for ventilation and lamp cooling. I've been doing one grow at a time, so I use this room for both vegging and flowering (with excellent results). My goal is to expand to a two-room operation, one room for flowering and the other for vegging, so I can run a perpetual harvest.

The new room is 12'x10'. I plan on using three(3) 1000w digital HPS systems in this room. Currently, I'm using the digital ballasts sold by HTG, but i'm considering buying Lumatek e-Ballasts for the new setup. The Lumatek ballasts are a bit more than the HTG ballasts, but money is not an issue so I'm going top-shelf. I am going to use EYE Hortilux SuperHPS bulbs in the three 1000w systems, along with XtraSun Mondo coolable reflectors. In the past, I've always grown in soil since I don't grow more than 12-15 plants at a time. However, since i'm expanding my operation I want to make the hydro swtich. I am planning on buying a 24-module Ebb & Gro system with a 55gal reservoir drum and controller unit. This system makes use of Hydroton pebbles as a grow medium, and automatically floods and drains the 24 modules 3-4 times a day. Does anyone have experience using this system, or one like it (such as the Waterfarm system)? What are your thought/advice with this sort of system? I just bought and installed a Hydrologic RO system that I can connect to the reservoir and control with a float-valve to automatically maintain my water level. I would like to include a master climate controller and CO2 system as well. I was looking at the iGS-220 Controller and a 12,000BTU CO2 generator w/heat exchanger.

My plan is to use my 8'x8' room for vegging and cloning, and the new 12'x10' room with all the new goodies for flowering. This way I will be able to have 24 plants flowering at all times :-D I've made links to all the items I'm planning on buying, so please check them out and give me some feedback if you can.

If I had a space like that I would through those 3 1000w's on a light mover, scrap that ebb & grow. I would get a BIG!! NFT system like 60 site. 24 in a 12x10??? With money not being an issue and a flower room that big, 24 plants would be a waste of c02, power, and time. IMHO

I was originally thinking along those lines, but I prefer to grow fewer, larger plants than many smaller ones. Also, this being my first foray into hydroponics, I wanted to keep the system as simple as possible. One of my concerns in using an NFT system is that it does not seem that the plants would have enough space between one another to spread out. With the Ebb & Gro system, I can keep the modules spaced far enough apart to allow for good lateral growth. I will probably end up partitioning the room so that the grow area is 10'x10', giving me some room to manuver. My overall goal is to yield about 5lbs per harvest.

I have used waterfarm 8 site set up. I still have it. I agree with you, If you want larger plants and you dont want dirt then hydroton is the way to go. I have seen posts where people have grown 4 ft plants and another where someone kept a mother alive for years in one.

Actually I had to modify my waterfarm it was not the ebb an flow type. Its in my journal.

If I were you I would look at the people that originally made the system you are looking at. It at greentrees, wait a sec,
Here is a link Multi Flow Hydroponic System - Greentrees Hydroponics

Its the original multiflow system and its expandable. While your at the site you may want to look at greenairs climate controllers too. I have done lots of business with these guys. They have just about everything and their shipping is reasonable.

You could always make your own NFT to suit your space needs. With a NFT you can grow some pretty tall plants. Read the Harvest 3 pounds sticky in hydro section. He grows big plants on his NFT .

Thanks for the link cruzer! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not sure what the difference is between this system and the one I originally linked to, but they appear to be the same. I don't want to pay for shipping all that shit, so I'll be buying it from my local hydro shop, and he carries the one I linked to. But again, thanks for the info. +rep for you buddy!

No Problem, thanks for the rep.

Yea, I hear ya about the shipping. One of the good things about that link is you can compare products as well as prices. I deal with my local hydro shop too. when you add tax to there price sometimes it cheaper online. You are going to be buying several products from this guy. Be sure and ask for a discount.

If you make a journal on the setup shoot me a link via pm.

Good luck.

5 pounds can be done with only 2 1000hps
