Vermicomposting - Getting the worms

Anyone familiar with vermicomposting? Im just looking into and any info would be really helpful. One thing i really have no idea on how to approach is getting the worms themselves. Thanks everyone.
There is some good companies that sell organic worm castings quite cheap I personally use elixir gardening supplies worm castings awesome stuff

I just made a pile on the ground and the worms showed up on their own. I also have a ghetto worm bin made out of a trash bin that's just teaming with worms. All native from the yard. I've never purchased worms except for fishing.

This pile will be all composted this spring when I spread it in my raised beds and then it's time to start again.

We got a big problem going on around Finger Lakes with the invasive " Asian Jumping Worms".....they get pretty big, move along top of grass like a snake, deplete soil of nutrients, leave piles of castings ( I don't think castings are beneficial...still checking) all the f over the place....they are f'ing creepy/crazy. http://warren.cce.cornell.edu/garde...er-articles/invasive-asian-jumping-earthworms

Those were recently discovered here in Oregon.

I'm in Upstate NY....the Dept. Env. Conservation say the source is the Great Lakes areas....have you any info on castings?

I don't know anything regarding castings from that particular species of worm. I'm definitely no expert on worms. I do know that African nightcrawlers are used by many commercial outfits to produce castings though.

bought worms from this guy. good service and worms
I agree. Got mine from them. USPS killed my worms and they rotted them. I told Jim and they sent me a new order and shipped them through FedEx for me. I just got red wigglers.

May I ask where this is? Is the soil very good there? Thanks

Get a bin off Amazon and a 12 or 16 sheet cross cutting paper shredder you'll thank me later. That paper shredder saves so much time. Worms from as mentioned uncle Jim off amazon.

I haven't seen those bins in my little town. I dont care for DIY. Also why not it comes directly to my house and every time I spend money I donate to NORML
I'm not a fan of Amazon. I try to buy my stuff elsewhere if I can. Bezo's doesn't need another 200 billion. It's cheaper direct too.
