Why use electricity on a heater when you can use it on a hps in a daisy reflector

You guys have a double whammy up there. Expensive electricity and cold.

I run mine in an unheated attached garage at night because of off peak power pricing under 0.05¢ kwh. I have a small oil filled heater that kicks on if it gets too cold during lights out. I did pick up a small LED I'm going to play around with though.

I liken it to the kind of people that brag about their AKC purebred dog like it's any better of a companion than a good old mutt. Mutts make great dogs and HID's grow great weed. End of story.

The only lighting I make fun of is blurple and the fun newbie who is using a t5 to flower. Other than that yep I agree.

Yet lots of people say a 600w LED light puts off as much heat as a 600w HID lamp does.

So if everyone is preaching that, what the hell does it matter which light you choose if they're in actuality going to produce the same heat.

In my veg room, I have to run a oil heater when it gets really cold. I got one flower room that has two mini splits I just leave one set to cool and one set in auto. I control the temp on the one I leave on auto from the trolmaster controller. In the other room, I will install another adapter for AC and use trolmaster to control it as well, but in the past it has rarely dropped low enough to need heat in that room as the 4 portable dehuey s still put off a good bit of heat. Insulation is the key I really don’t spend much on heating at all and it’s really cold here. I have 3 inches of foam board and 2-3 inches of closed cell spray foam insulation on top of that.

Because you can cover the same space with 2-300 less watts using decent led? Is this a serious question or did I just get "trolled"?

Watts get thrown around when talking about LEDs. It's meant to be confusing. Best to take the number and divide by ten to get near a true value.

1kwh=3412 btu

I never use to worry too much about cold. My flower room is where the exhaust for the whole house goes through with a bath fan exhaust. So it will not much get below the house temp in winter around 68F. It might get up to 80F during lights on, 65F lights off, won't know until we get a deep cold spell. It's in a closet in an unheated room but against the heated bathroom wall.

Sometime around Thanksgiving try running your lights on at night if you aren't already. With LED some years I'll HAVE to do that to keep lights off terps up and rh lower

I already do. In the summer it's cooler with AC running for lights out during the heat of the day. It works the same for needing some heat of the lamps at night. Midnight to Noon with the flower. 6pm to Noon with the veg tent.

My electric costs, in my area of UK, standard rate is 18.16p kWh Ex. Vat / 19.07p kWh Inc. Vat

The power might be cheap during off-peak hours but that won't make up for the crazy housing prices here in Portland Oregon. Average home price is $530K.

Yeah unless its london it aint nowhere near as expensive as that over here for your average property
