Anime your top ten favorites

I think the thing I love best about anime is how I’m always stumbling into something amazing…and it just happened again.

This show is called Guilty Crown, and it was yet another “sure, let’s see what’s going on with this one”.

There’s not a bloody thing I can say about it, except “WATCH IT”: the closest thing I can compare it to is Elfen Lied - but that’s only because of the intensity of it, the grip it took on me. Eleven eps ended with what felt like a climax - but there’s still 11 more to go, and I feel wrung out…but after a break, I know I’ll be right back on it.

Completely agree! I tend to stay away from popular/mainstream anime and instead focus on highly underappreciated and/or underrated anime. For example Baki and Kengan Ashura. Baki is well known and peeps love it. I personally like it (to many fillers for my taste), but it doesn't even compare to the greatness of Kengan Ashura. When it comes down to it, as with films, music, etc...good is good (example MHA).

Ancient Mangus Bride is good, very good......

nother i came across....was black lagoon, Balalaika is just a mean lady
It really is…VERY good. Only 12 eps, and an OVA…and for all I know, will never get more: that’s made me slow down the pace of my watching. I *don’t* want it to be over - it’s heartbreaking, and beautiful, and every character is exquisite (not tragic, but deeply touching). I’m resonating with it pretty strongly, and choose not to pick it apart or analyze it.

Here’s one I didn’t want to mention until I’d seen it: “The Case Study of Vanitas”. 12 episodes so far & very good, and almost ALL of it is set-up for the larger, longer story (no, I got no idea what that is, only hints, but I can tell it’s there). I’m really not fond of vampire stories; I find them brutal and shallow, cynical and repetitive. This is charming, original, intriguing - the characters are fascinating, the set work is gorgeous, the animation pretty flawless; it’s set in a 19th-century Paris, in which humans and vampires live amicably…for the most part. There needs to be another season or three - at least.

Budman, I’ve been on the fence w/ Black Lagoon for a while, but I’ll roll it once I’m done with AMB…or maybe I’ll roll it next, and keep Chise & Elias on the back burner for a while. ‘Preciate you speaking up about it.

Will do and if I may suggest a few for you cowboy Bebop ninja scrolls soul eater
Didn’t care for Ninja Scroll, personally…it’s that whole period of anime - not it itself. Not far enough away from Astro Boy? Dunno….

if you haven’t seen it, may I suggest Samurai Champloo? Silly title, but on a similar level w/ Bebop - even though the two aren’t much alike at all. Another box of surprises…. I’ll have to check Soul Eater.

I can tell you’ve been mining the Prime stuff…Kokkoku is another I’ve been on the fence with, so onto the list it goes, and thanks! Vinland Saga, as well…just heard too much good stuff about it.

Nice to see someone mention Bahamut: Virgin Soul…*SO* much to like about it! Haven’t been able to get into the first sequence, Genesis, tho. If you haven’t watched Grimoire of Zero, give it a try…. Gurren Lagaan is a ton of wild fun, too. Made in Abyss is *not* fun - but is very good.

Glad to have you here, Quarts…! You inspire me to start winnowing a few Top 10 lists…lots of good stuff on Netflix, too: Last Hope, Beastars (haven’t caught season 2 yet)…okay, lists….
