Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)???

I picked up some at my local grocery store. The active ingredient reads *Hydrogen Peroxide 3%. The inactive reads *Purified water. Now how much should I add to 4 gal. of solution?

Would 2 Tbsp. be enough?

***ONLY 3% H2O2

BTW, I'm trying to fix a pythium problem (root rot)

if you have a ppm meter try to hit 100. but then again with only 3 percent you might get a lot of other bs too. try to find some 35 if possible, thats what most people here would use and might be able to help you figure out how to hit the right quantity.

From what Ive been told by AL B FUCT is that with small concentrations of H2O2 youll finish that bottle very quickly, go get H2O2 at at least 17.5% but AL recommends 50% but thats if you can find it in your country. About the dosage it should state how much to use on the bottle.

I used bghydro. type in "hydrogen peroxide" or look at the last page on plant nutrients. They have the food grade h202 you need. It is for hydro and is iasy to use. Cheap. Dont get it on your hands and you can kill your plants with h202. I am sure all shops got it. Ebay is expensive.

So, I shouldn't use this stuff at all? I did try to look for the good stuff, but sadly this was the highest concentration I could pick up today. I'm due to change the res. tomorrow morning, So I'm just gonna add a little splash.

yep potroast is right-thats the program with 3%.

However a rescue dunk sounds like what you need. Potroast may be able to back me up on this one.

If you are dealing with an acute problem like pythium a bucket of H2O with 10ml/L of 35%H2O2 creates a solution of approx 3% H2O2. In lieu of a couple normally scheduled waterings you should dip root mass (to normal flood level) in 3% solution for 10-15 seconds then dip in H20 for a second, then allow root mass to dry back a bit more than it would under its normal schedule and repeat. Put back on normal schedule with resevoir treated as directed by potroast with H2O2. You should see improvement in growth and new WHITE roots in a few days-if not repeat the process. I had one strain in my mums suffer off and on for a little while but I got things in check via this "rescue dunk" method. Hope this helps.

Well I just switched the res for my plant. I put approx. 1/2 a bottle of 473 mL 3% H2O2.
I hope this won't damage the plant any...

Well, if that amount went into your 4 gallon reservoir, then you used one-fourth of what you should. Which means that it probably won't do any good.

The rescue dunk that was mentioned would be good, but at the right amounts of H2O2. As was stated already, for 3% you should use 17ml/L. For 35% use 1.5ml/L, and for 50% use 1ml/L.

Well Mr. potroast, Your math is way off, and half of a 473 mL bottle was just right according to the 17mL/L rule. So ya *cough

Knowing this I simply multiplied 3.79 liters by my 4 gallons of solution, which is 15.16. Now knowing I have 15.16 liters in my bucket I added 17mL/L which is 17x15.16=257.72. I added approx. 473/2 mL of H2O2, which came out to 236.5 mL (give or take). So I think I'll be just fine

Yes ok, but how did the results turn out? Did it kill off the root rot?

if you cant find H2o2 anywhere you can find it at a hairdresser supply, i personally use the 35%....i make my own 3%....just take 1oz of the 35% and mix it to 11oz of plain water much more economical...also hydro shops sell various brands
