The longer the curing the better the high?

Yep. Same here bro. I dry the 10-14 day if I can. And once I’m bucking. I’m smoking. I’m not waiting. I always thought that was obscured because I LOVE the smell and taste fresh pop off the stem. And plus by the final half of the harvest. I’d say it’s cured by then. Lol. But I prefer the first half
I get what you're saying...lol I got too high to continue my stoned rant with a similar observation...I think I like the more mellow stone of the latter buds. Chills me the fuck out

Bernie Sanders over here.
The fact that you grow your own and therefore have no idea of what is going on with "street weed".

I know several illicit growers, all of which are straight up OCD about their curing process. If you have friends who grow and sell illegally AND suck at curing, then maybe it's on you to call them out.

But again, that's not how the illicit growers I know operate. They have to compete with dispensaries, so top shelf weed(both dried and cured) is a priority.
Valid point. Street cred is competitive. Maybe someone bought some bad weed?

Oh good grief. I was probably growing and selling weed before you were even born. I've know dozens of illicit growers over the years many with large operations and none of them cured their weed. They wanted it gone as soon as possible and people wanted it as soon as it was ready. So once it was dry it was sold.

The reality is that outside of the small minority of growers going on and on about curing the vast majority don't even know what curing weed is. Most grow it and smoke it. You seem to think that because people on cannabis forums do it that it's the norm. It isn't. For every 1 grower on a cannabis forum fiddling with curing and all the other cannabis specific stuff including nutrients, flushing and other nonsense there are thousands of people growing weed that just go down and buy a bag of potting soil, grow weed, dry it, and smoke it. There are more growers that don't cure their weed than those that do.

I also don't think curing improves anything. It's a fact that terpenes degrade over time. Terpenes are what gives flavor and smell so how does degradation of terpenes improve weed? People say it makes it smoother. Well of course it does just like dried culinary herbs lose their flavor and smell over time becoming bland. I don't like bland weed. I prefer fresh weed with as much terpenes as possible. Not old weed that's been in a jar for months after the terpenes have been degrading.

It all depends on environmental conditions. I've left weed in open-air for a couple of months and it would still be sticky and dank, but I live in a environment that has high humidity. Letting my buds sit in a jar brings out some of the taste and smell. In my opinion it does nothing for potency. I like to smoke mine straight off the drying rack. It's all personal preference. But most weedheads my experience enjoy a nice cure. Just brings out flavor profile .

Many cure incorrectly and end up with moldy weed or wait it so long that they've lost the terpenes that provide the taste and smell they're looking for.

I've been around good weed. You don't have to cure it for it to be dank. Good weed is done as soon as it is dried properly. Fresh is best. Strongest terpene levels.

You'll never convince the curers though. Thy seem convinced that letting their weed get old improves it. The best tastes and smells come from fresh weed.

I grow herbs like thyme and rosemary for cooking. Fresh undried is best but I still use dried for cooking during the winter when the plants are all yucked up. By spring I'm waiting for the new growth as the old dried herb has lost all of the terpenes/volatile oils that give it the taste and aroma I'm looking for.

Cannabis loses it's character, taste, and smell just like dried herbs do. I think many just cure because they read about it on the internet and think it's something you need to do. Some will go to their grave disagreeing with me but that doesn't change the FACT that terpenes degrade over time and that old weed has lost some of the qualities many people desire. If you have a strain that's piney, fruity, or skunky, those characteristics will just diminish over time.

Those that say it mellows it out with a cure are correct. It's more mellow because the terpenes have degraded.

I prefer the crisp in your face presence of fresh terpenes that haven't degraded.

The longer it sits the worse it gits.

I don't cure and I don't flush. My weed tastes great as soon as it's dry enough to smoke. Some prefer to let their weed get all old and tasteless before smoking by curing it. That's their choice.

I'm in San Diego. The market here and the amount of people growing high quality weed has been crazy for decades. The market is so competitive, and has been since before legalization, that quality(in all areas including curing) is key or else you simply disappear from the market.

I'm sorry that the growers in your area suck. That's not the case here.

I agree with you on terpenes. I personally prefer freshly dried weed over cured. But that's just my personal preference.

Also, I didn't realize that you've been growing since the 60s. Props to you for being in the game so long.

I found an old bag of nugs abit ago, it was in a bag out in a barn drawer for a whole year. It had pretty much decarbed I think, because all the trichomes were very amber. It was cured green buds last time I saw it.

I figured it would smoke like shit, but I kind of liked the effect of aged weed. Now I understand why they age hash temple balls. I felt like they lacked a punch though.

Weed is packed for sale as soon as it’s done drying. Any curing is because storage in transport. I don’t know anyone who grows for income and has dry product and says no to cash because “it’s not cured yet”. Lmfao.

personal use growers cure. And that’s pretty much it. Large scale grows dry their weed to the curing rh/temps and they are out at a hold which it basically the perfect cure. They have the equipment for that. But even when I was selling weed. I did not tell my customers no because my weed was not cured yet. Gotta wait a few months.

I've quick dried in the past when I was selling and some even were willing to take damp weed they wanted it so bad. Nobody selling on the black market is burping jars and curing. They're just glad they got their grow done and want to convert it into cash as fast as they can.

What I consider a "cure" is evenly disturbing and stabilizing the moisture content within the bud. What I consider "drying" is getting the majority of moisture out of the bud. A lot of people combine drying and curing, which would be a slow dry. What most people consider curing I consider "aging." Aging slowly oxidizes the thc and evaporates the terpenes of the already cured buds.

my previous grow i realised i wasted so much time hand trimming the stuff and drying it a certain way. The consumer didn't really care lol

If your in a commercial market growing for sale. you should be trimming to extend profitability. That trim is gold bro.

Anybody who thinks or doesn't believe in a proper curing is a dumb motherfucker. 100% it improves flavour, smell, smoothness and most importantly HIGH and you only need to do a 1 week dry + 2 week jar cure to gain these benefits.
