That actually happens more than you'd think in brown bear country - some wildlife officials have gone on record of saying that in some instances a gunshot is like a dinner bell to experienced bears.

Got it done yesterday, laid down this spike about 1030 am.
Shot through the heart at 60 yds. No suffering, straight to heaven for this one.

My father in law would be pissed, he liked heart and stuffing. He thought I hit one in the heart once, but I had actually just unplugged it, it was all in one piece.

Heart is not my favorite but I'll eat it.
Liver, bacon, shrooms & onions on the other hand is a straight up delicacy.
I'm a big fan of the high neck shot as no recoverable meat is lost.

The liver is straight up awesome with onion. I have never had it with the bacon and mushrooms. I can imagine that is even better.

A direct hit to the heart with a .50 cal hollow point. Heart is the dark red piece blown in two. I'd of cleaned it up, but it's Coyote or bear food now. If Ida thunk it, I'd have left a camera on the gut pile. A clean shot is a clean kill, this little buck went lights out in a blink.

They do. I soak in salt water to get the blood out, then boil til done. Sliced very thin, little mayo on bread, into a sandwich baggie for lunch in the field. Salt & pepper imperative.

Doe meat is the absolute best! Especially this time of year when the bigger bucks get rutted out. I'll take a fat doe over anything with horns any day. Had to use my 'antlerless deer' tag on this guy, but, again, this late in the year, meat in the freezer is the important thing.

The liver- again soaked in saltwater to drain out blood, comes out looking purple and surgically removed,
This one goes to the nice lady who let's me hunt her property. She has asked me for kidneys, but I've yet to find out how to remove those. Any advice would be great.
