Kief Issues

I ended up with a ball of goo after I tried decarbing kief in a jar at 230 deg F after 15 minutes. The questions are what went wrong and is it posible that it was long enough to activate. I was following recomendations from a number of web sites and none of them explained these results. I used about an ounce of kief I collected from running my trimmings through a 150 micron screen, it was Blonde and Beautiful, now its a ball of dark brown putty like hash. It still smokes well, puffing up like a marshmallow, and still kicking butt, but I was looking to decarb for making edibles. Not sure what to do next or maybe do nothing and keep smoking??

It's probably because it was enclosed in the jar and there was a fair amount of moisture in it. I decarb extract in a microwave myself. I put parchment paper in a pyrex bowl so it goes up to the edges like a paper bowl inside the glass one, then heat at low setting for about 90 minutes. It may not need that long but it keeps bubbling a lot for that long so I assume the bubbles are the CO2 coming out and when it gets to not much bubbling it means it's mostly decarbed. I would say at least 30 minutes of bubbling would be needed. It will be thinner when it's decarbed, not liquid but it will flow when tilted, like molasses. At least pure extract will, I don't know about kief. Some people might think 90 minutes of heating would degrade it to cannabinol but I can assure you it's extremely potent so it can't have degraded much. Maybe it takes that long because it's at low setting so it doesn't get all that hot, there's no toasty/burny smell like at higher temperatures

I've yet to be able to successfully decarb anything that got me high, but, I've been doing it the "safer" ways without much luck.

Since they just legalized it in NY, I am waiting for someone to "invent-a-machine".... cause it's actually against the law that they legalized, to decarb using butane or alcohol. So it's gotta be done by the oven or microwave.

I've seen one of those presses.... and that peaked my interest but those things are 'spensiiiiive!!!

I think because I was stoned, I was talking about both at the same time.... Which after reading it all again, pretty sure is what happened. LOL!
