Being a woman in my field of work

HI all my name is Lacy and I was wondering how many women out there are in a male dominate workplace. Take RIU, mainly men but to this point I have been treated respectfully for the most part and helped a lot!

I work for a very small computer business and in that field its hard for people to take me seriously, so I have resorted to acting a bit demanding and somewhat bitchy. Gotta stay on top of those shovanistic male egos. I have a BA in the technical field and know my shit! That should be enough for them but it isn't. I have fully custom made computers with multi os boot on all and a fully dedicated linux desktop. YEah! That usually shuts them up for a bit.

My side job is airbrushing and in my town is totally ran by males. Most of them are alright but very competitive. This has also been a daunting task of artistic approval. Airbrush artist cant be like regular artist, they have to sell their work fast and make it faster. Luckily I work in a shop owned by a friend and favors me as an artist. PS3's and 360's mostly.


Anywho who else has that problem?!?!?!

Do you have any idea what we men degrade to outside of the presence of ladies...?

Its like a school yard... only ruled by who can beat up who... even if there is never any fighting. Those same men turn into gentlemen (if if they still ook crude to you) in the presence of women.

Just learn to value yourself, it is only important that you see what unique gift you bring that you will feel content and secure. You don't need other people's approval any more than you need to be a bitch. People will remember you being a bitch long after they forgot about your nice rig.

im a dude, and i love me some women jokes, or cracking jokes even around them......do i take pride and joy in degrading them? no, because i dont, i just play off stereotypes like i would with any race, religion, or gender to get a good laugh (as long as it is in good fun) anything past that is bullying, and anyone playing a victim because of genetics is just being a cry-baby

I've never really worked in a male dominated place, but I have a few male dominated hobbies. Like comics, I have had akward moments in comic book stores when I try to get into a conversation about the latest issue of ulitimate x-men and how amazing spiderman just dropped off the face of the planet. But the akward doesn't last long usually, especially if I make it known that I'm just as apt to appreciate wonder women's artists as I am her writers.
Maybe it'd be harder for a straight chick?

great to see so many opinions about the subject. well unfortunately i do get a bit bitchy @ work because of assholes usually. males in my part of town have to be better for the most part. after you prove your work and show your confidence you are accepted. im not talking about some mc whatever job im talking about real out there jobs. i guess i am talking about assholes. ha! i dont mind what people think of me and my thoughts. especially now since i am super duper high right now. sorry for the rambling. so yeah, in a real upscale tyoe job it is harder for women. oh my god am i high. .......... w o w. hi

Not trying to be a dick but i call bullshit,work is only as hard as you make it & the workplace is only as bad as you allow yourself to believe it is,nowdays people need excuses as to why they are not good at their job,or why somebody else got promoted,or why they are not truly interested in the work they do daily,or even why others make more money,in the end who really cares,it's what we all do to earn our daily bread,nothing more.

People/men dont care about the fact that your a woman,homosexual,handicap ect,all they care about is how you interact within the workplace & thats it.

Another thing is that the modern workplace is too damm touchy feely, where there's allways one or two employee's that make big scene's out of little shit they dont like about others personalities,then they dwell on how bad it makes the workplace for "them",just because men are crass does not mean they have it out for you,it's part of being a man,men are crass by nature.

Funny thing is this,the type guy's that are branded as being asshole's at work are usually the type of guy's that women go for in real life,most women dont want the weak mouthed non opinionated jelly spined yes man type,they want the tough guy with a long history of bad relationships.

I call it like i see it,women have made most men what they are like it or not.
