A cruise ship is returning to Miami with 48 positive covid cases, the ‘USS: Are You F’N Kidding me!?’ Will be docking soon.
You have to be a special kind of stupid to go on a cruise these days.
i wouldn't let them off the ship, just make the cruise company park it there, and charge them out the ass to take care of it and the people on it till they're all testing negative...then make them strip that ship to the bone and disinfect every square inch of it, burn all the old linens, carpets, anything portable and flammable...make it unprofitable for cruise companies to keep doing this shit

Read something interesting from a scientist taking about the data from South Africa and how it may not reflect what is happening in Europe. Apparently there is a neanderthal gene that can cause a worse outcome with covid, Europeans can have this gene and it's not in the South African population.

Unvaccinated man from Texas is the first confirmed death from omicron, sounds about right.
The idiot also had health problems and had recovered from a previous covid infection.

The way its mutating, could be eventually none of the shots will be effective.

It also seems there is contradicting information about how deadly the Omicron mutation is. The latest studies Ive seen say the Omicron mutation is just as deadly as Delta, and more transmissable.
It also looks like the Moderna vaccine might be the most effective, with Pfizer second.

All I can say is we are in for a real fight with this virus, and it aint going away anytime soon, and will probably get worse, before it gets better.

Is the Omicron Variant Less Severe Than Delta? Here's What Experts Are Saying
Chicago's top doctor said that while we are still learning about the variant and research is still developing, an early look at the latest data has led to some findings so far

For unvaccinated populations, particularly those most susceptible to COVID, Arwady anticipates "accelerated transmission and then a rising number of hospitalizations for severe illness."

Her comments echo the early findings of a study by the U.K.'s Imperial College London, which indicate there is currently no evidence the variant is any less severe than delta.

"The study finds no evidence of omicron having lower severity than delta, judged by either the proportion of people testing positive who report symptoms, or by the proportion of cases seeking hospital care after infection," the research team said Friday in a blog post accompanying the study.

Even if omicron proves milder on the whole than delta, it may disarm some of the life-saving tools available and put immune-compromised and elderly people at particular risk as it begins a rapid assault on the United States.

"We know that people infected with omicron can have the full spectrum of disease, from asymptomatic infection to mild disease, all the way to severe disease to death," Van Kerkhove said.

And if a dueling surge of both delta and omicron hits, experts fear hospitals and staff won't be able to withstand the increase.

“Our delta surge is ongoing and, in fact, accelerating. And on top of that, we’re going to add an omicron surge,” said Dr. Jacob Lemieux, who monitors variants for a research collaboration led by Harvard Medical School.

“That’s alarming, because our hospitals are already filling up. Staff are fatigued,” leaving limited capacity for a potential crush of COVID-19 cases “from an omicron wave superimposed on a delta surge.”

Or it will won't, and the vaccine holds up and we are in the same stupid spot we are in now.

A couple weeks of panic spam though is not going to change what the reality ends up being.

I am curious how long it takes for the trolls to start selling the Right wing death cult talking point of it being Democrat hoax.
the right has already blamed dems as new variant every fall just in time for election so it's been said.

The population is very young in South Africa. We should have been looking at outcomes in the older folks to get an idea of what we have coming. Also there is the Neandertal thing Captain posted. We should have better used the two weeks the travel ban bought us. Looks like most of that time was wasted.

that's what government does, make things take three to four times as long as it should take...then they have to call out emergency teams to deal with things that were minor before they wasted all the time deciding what to do about it

There is not a lot Joe Rob can do that the red hats would do anyway. The one thing would be to mandate vaccines for flying inside the county. But I think the low poll numbers might have something to do with how hard he is willing to push. (and he may be an evil genius who is actually letting the red hats thin the herd before election time)

The slow moving gears of government can also be a good thing, if change was easy and quick tRUmp would have changed enough things to subvert the election and still be in office.

The NHL has suspended play till after the holidays, the NFL has decided to test less to get lower positive tests, fucking assholes.
What else would you expect from an organization that instead of paying black people for traumatic brain injuries, would just classify them as mentally inferior.
