Exactly the juvenile uncalled for disrespectful things that happened on this side that now I'm deleting it. Thanks for letting me know that progress obviously stopped on this side. Because you guys are regressing to sub Neanderthal behavior
That is more like it for a full pound of butter. 10 grams is good for 250 ml. of oil.... After decarbing my ounce ...
I'll use the stove top and a double boiler on MIN for at least 4 hours - but I have never tried it with a tbsp. of honey. I'll give that a shot next time.... I put the weed in a crockpot with the melted butter and a tablespoon of raw honey on low and let it go like 5-6 hours ...
No - the decarbing part is done after only 45 minutes in a 220 degree oven. It's steeping the decarbed weed in melted butter that takes hours. Since you asked, here is how I learned.... when or why so many people have "learned" that it takes hours to decarb in the oven etc etc ...
If you grind the bud up, it will decarb in 30 minutes. If you feel that keeping it whole and cooking it for 4 hours makes a better result than go for it!No - the decarbing part is done after only 45 minutes in a 220 degree oven. In the fall of 2019, a late October weekend became Cannabutter-palooza. One of the more enjoyable benefits of Mrs. Starecase being gone for a ladies weekend. (Yes, she did come back) So it was some NCAA College football then some NHL hockey on the Saturday followed by the usual fall Sunday NFL blitz - all while making six different batches of cannabutter.
- Two batches steeped for 1 hour - one batch using 14 grams then one batch using 28 grams.
- Two batches steeped for 2 hours - one batch using 14 grams and one batch using 28 grams.
- Two batches steeped for 4 hours - one batch using 14 grams and one batch using 28 grams.
All of the batches were made with flower from the most recent cured Red Diesel strain so there was no difference in the bud used. I did not mix and match different flowers. Each batch was made with 1 lb. of Nielson butter so there was no mixing and matching of the butter used either.
Decarbing was done in the same Pyrex casserole dish ... the bud were cut apart using the same scissors ... steeping was done in the same saucepan ... on the same burner on the stove ... the casserole dish, scissors and saucepan were all washed between batches. That might seem a little over the top - but I wanted to maintain complete uniformity of all aspects so that it was a fair test. And I was a bit stoned too!
Of all the 6 batches, I found that the butter that went through the 4 hour steep with the 28 decarbed grams worked the best. Cannabutter-palooza 2019 was how I learned.
I like this way too. Maintaining the temp can be challenging.I make coconut oil instead of butter and have been decarbing right in the oil the last several batches I've made. I actually read about it on here somewhere...just heat the oil/bud mixture up to 240F, keep it there for 45 to an hour. I use a meat thermometer to check the temp but you can basically tell when it's done because bubbles will start to form, and they stop when it's fully decarbed.
I want to say you retain more terps doing it that way too but I have no evidence to back it up.
My crockpot on high seems to hold it around 250 so I just go with that. Works out well enough for me...I like this way too. Maintaining the temp can be challenging.
