Switch from 18-6 to 12-12 to finish Autos?

Auto flowers do not require a switch in light cycle and shouldn't even be kept in a period of darkness. Cannabis ruderalis originates from Siberia where sunlight is turned on 24 hours a day during the grow season. Having lights off at all will reduce the overall yield as they only have a set amount of time to gather all the energy they need to throw out dank buds.

Jjgrow420 is smack on here...it's the reason autoflowers tend to stall and not finish outside with 12 hours of light or less.

I live in Interior Alaska and I've never had an auto finish outdoors. Last year I got the closest but no banana. Autos suck.
I don't have photos finish either but they do get big.

This will probably open a can if worms but hear me out ….
I have switched from 20/4 down to 12/12 with autos.
Last one i did that to was the Berta plant i just took down a few weeks back ….. I let them run from 20/4 up front til transition ( preflower ) then 18/6 thru week 7 then down 12/12 til end.
Since autos are not light cycle dependent AND is already structured and blooming anyways , i find the downturn cycle finishes them up just fine.
I had to FORCE a stalled strain ( crazy miss hyde ) that stopped mid flower , sized out to 5 foot + but stalled as if it just gave up. Force flowering did help push some final blooming but the strain was apparently weak. Force Flowering is nothing new and is done by many. To me since its blooming already and going into last stages - 12/12 not only gets it all done as any photo - it saves wear and tear on gear.

I've tried 4 summers in a row. Every time they have to finish under lights. They take nutes just fine. Get good size. But they just don't finish in 100 days. Last frost is usually June 1. Average first frost is mid-September. That's even starting them indoors and taking them out well after the last frost.Grow them ONCE indoors for me Harley!!! Just ONCE!!!

Had the same issues outdoors with autos. The ones grown indoors were 4 foot tall and yielded close to half a pound.....the ones outdoor were absolute runts. 1-1.5ft tall at max. Bushy but never filled out.
And I'm sub tropical QLD. Probs has more to do with the 4-5 hours direct light and shading for the rest of the day though.
I suppose all that really matters is DLI though...if you can provide adequate DLI it should be fine.

My two White Widows are in their final flower stage, and my Durban Poison is just starting to brown it's pistils. I started them to have something to smoke for the Super Bowl. I germed the Durban the day the season started and the Widows a week later. I had thought I'd be able to finish and get two-three weeks of curing buy the Surper Bowl, but it doesn't look likely now. It may be because of the low temp (74-66) Temps in my grow room.

I'd argue it's just a plant and runs on a DLI like all sun loving plants.
(excluding adding co2) Keeping the canopy at around 950ppfd, during flower is common. But run that 24 hours your plants will get a DLI of 80 odd. Way too much! 16 hours would work better and more efficiently in that scenario.
Just depends on the ppfd and for how long you're giving it to it. Light is cumulative over time.
