Focused on cal mag def, but could it be lights?

Been fighting rusting and leaf issues.
Looked exactly like a deficiency in cal mag.
But I see the plants on the outside where light is not as strong seem to be doing much better.

lm using Remo nutes. Kelp, micro, gro, magcal etc.
Ph at 5.8
Water temp 67
Ppm 1400
Week 4 veg
Lights: 70% at 26" - photontek XT1000 CO2 pro lights. Very strong!

Based on this I'm thinking maybe I'm buring the plants, not a deficiency....just doesn't look like burn. Looks exactly like cal mag or even phosphorus deficiency.

What amounts of each are you using for your nutrients? 2.8 EC is extremely high for feeding, especially in veg.

It's in RDWC
I had it at 1000ppm and they would eat 500ppm in a day or two and PH would go from 5.5 to 6.2 in a few days too.

I think the plants uptook a ton water to offset the light and in the meantime took the nutes with the water hence the drop in ppm and rise in PH

I was trying to battle deficiency like I said but seeing some clawing, crazy ppm drops, quick ph up I'm thinking it's lights and not deficiency

I had lights at 24" at 70 percent

Photontek told me 36" at 50 percent is plenty for veg
I also noticed the insides where light is diffused are perfect
Keeping an eye on new growth but apparently these lights crazy powerful.

When you think about it they ate 500 ppm in one night
So they were cooking and taking up water and nutes along with it To try and cool off.

Since I raised the lights and turned down the power they ate 75ppm last night and PH went from 5.8 to 5.9
Nice healthy movement on the PH and EC so roots are good...brown but good. I assume their brown as I'm using Remo and the nutes have a lot of color and my water is actually pink/orange after a fresh res change and fresh nutes.

Heat is good
Ph is good
Humidity is good
No smell in Reservoir
Roots don't smell
Water levels are good
Water temp is 67
CO2 is good
Air stones are bubbling and good
Ppm are high but no tips burning...

Has to be the lights

you are definitely burning them. with 1400ppm. not your lights.

Thats about where I am now
I dumped some system volume and added RO to dilute.

Right around 1.8 now

Why would the rust/burns only be on outside leaves,
Inside is lush green and no symptoms.
Only larger fans that are directly exposed...

i see tip burn on just about every leaf.
and the new growth looks like Mg defic.

there is no way a plant in dwc will have any deficiencies at 1400ppms. unless they are nute locked.

try feeding them at about 600ppms instead

Depends on the scale of your pen. Most people refer to the 500 scale so I'd assume he meant 1.2 EC

Ok so ppm500 = TDS
Normally I use 700 scale.

Back that light off and lower the feed as others suggested.. A plant that size does not need
that much light or fertilizer.

No TDS is Total Dissolved Solids.

500 ppm scale is the Hannah scale.
700 ppm scale is the Truncheon scale.

These ppm scales are just an interpretation based on EC.

You said you normally use the 700 scale. You can't just pick one you want, you have to use what ever scale your meter reads in. As far as I know the vast majority read in the 500 scale.

what i would do is flush for 12hrs with 0ppm water or close to it. i'd be interested to see what the ppm is after those 12hours. i bet it's much higher than what you flushed with.

if you can use EC that would be better. you might need to start at like 0.5EC and see what happens. after a flush, the 0.5 should drop a decent amount. if it goes up to 0.6 or 0.8, then you might need to flush some more.

the damaged leaves wont' get better but if you can stop the new growth from burning, you'll be in good shape. at least you are in veg and you can let them get better. if you were mid way thru bloom, you'd be much worse off
