I clearly grew up being taught that being gay is bad. I didn't realize my HS friend, one of my best friends, was gay because he had to hide it. He lifted weights and took karate classes knowing that he would be bullied and ostracized if anyone discovered his secret. I remember a bully trying to pick a fight with him and then crying because my gay friend hit the bully in the throat. I laughed at the bully to his face over that complaint. He was a good 30 lbs heavier and didn't think my friend fought "fair".You clearly dont have any kids in school.
I remember a friend asking me to help him ambush a "hippie" when he got off the bus. That was the end of that friendship.
I met every teacher, reviewed their lessons, talked to my kids about their day at school, and helped them with their homework. I challenged them with mental games during rides anywhere. I raised my kids to be accepting, not judgemental. They turned out great.
DeSantis makes a very public display of being a bully because he knows how to attract weak, judgmental people. He knows that some people can be brought together as a group, to make them feel accepted as family, not ostracized like gays, by appealing to the lizard brain, by drawing them into the hate of "others". He's vilified academics, the "elite", "gays", "the libs", Dems, progressives, the "woke" (whatever the hell that means), "cancel culture", the media, scientists, "socialists", school boards, local gov't employees, local small businesses, the Federal gov't, pro-choice advocates, "Marxists", "blacks", immigrants, teachers, "blue states", urban populations, & those who differ from his opinion on vaccines or mask wearing for public health...essentially everyone outside of your own group.
and so it goes.
