Who else chews petioles ?

For at least 15yrs I've been chewing on petioles to determine the plants content and clarity before harvest.
I stopped going by trich color even longer ago.

When new stigma production gets slow and final swell starts occurring , I start tasting petioles.
If they're still bitter (N) or astringent(K) then I stop feeding and give only water.
If brix content is sweet then they get another feeding.

I don't harvest until final swell is complete and petioles taste clean and clear.
Nothing ever needs to be cured.

So does anyone else chew petioles?

I chew on my bud all the time. Sometimes when im grinding it ill take a piece and chew it. Tastes good!

Ive never used it to determine plant ripeness though.

So do you find it changes the taste if you were to put it in 48 hrs of darkness?
For those last hours they're moved into the lungroom and fully flushed with 3x the water of container size. So a 2gal bag gets 6gal run thru it. Probably overkill but it's personal smoke.
I totally delarf and let em sit in the dark lungroom for at least 24hr.
Theres no change in petiole taste during that time because they're already clean and clear prior.

No.

But...it's an intriguing argument you make.
Do different strains taste different if grown similarly?

I make a lot of edibles so I know the flavors of bud but have never considered your idea.
Being honest it sounds so old-school-farmer-wisdom I bet it does work.

Ive been chewing cud and eating potseeds like sunflower seeds before i was in grade school.
I liked the way my dads hash waxed up my teeth when I was young too.
But the petioles are really a good way to determine your skills in feeding each individual plant to its potential.
It can be done anytime during grow and flower to tell brix content or if you're pushing it they'll actually taste salty.

Some do taste different but thats not what i look for when i do it.
For example my "piff S2" has floral perfume/potpourri tasting petioles unlike anything else.
But its trichs smell like soap & liver with slight potpourri.

I know it sounds like bro science, but I'm not gonna knock it until I've tried it myself. I've always enjoyed the taste of chewing on weed anyways,.

I used to take fresh buds to school and get everyone in my class to chew on them. The whole class just going at it.
