World of Seeds South African KwaZulu

This is the most excited for a plant that I have been yet.

Did a lot of searching and wanted a sativa type to try for effects. Went with this strain somewhat because of availability when it was ordered and reviews from various sources were mostly positive.

Supposed to be in the teens for thc and also has potential for thc-v among other sativa cannabinoids that I was hoping to try.

Started out as broad leaf, did research to verify this as a trait for this strain and it is a broad leaf strain.

Supposed to be sourced from wild growing cannabis on the north end of Drakensburg ridge in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

have no way of verification only going from breeder claims.

Looked up the area of seed source and it is higher in elevation and farther south than expected.

Decided to run for flower during my winter because the environment these will be exposed to is not going to be even close to tropical in the winter.

Healthy looking plants. Looks like your off to a good start. I have a pack of the same seeds so I'll be watching this to see the result.

Good luck.

Also, it seems like many of the African strains have high levels of THCV which is desirable to many.

This is a mostly complete run that I wanted to do a journal with sooner but did not get it accomplished.

Gonna try to piece it together because these plants took a serious beating to none of their fault and made it.

They deserve to be recognized.

The cuts rooted nicely in a timely manner, as far as exact time, if anyone is really into those details I can look into the notes deeper.

The clones never really missed a beat. Seedling mothers are trucking right along as well.

The weirdo is a bagseed from years ago that I keep going as clone because she has taught me everything I know to this point about keeping up with a fast growing plant.

Edit: ignore the orange blossom label on the stick, it says kwazulu on the other side. Reusing them since orange blossom left the garden due to an issue that seemed to transfer with her clones.

Three weeks later these 3 girls are still shit, sagging, no growth, I've been busy with other stuff so kind of ignored them and had been giving them 1.0 ec max.

Finally took time to diagnose, the coco is sitting at 4.9 to 5.1 pH depending on pot.

The original rootball is still hanging on at 5.9 to 6.1 pH.

The issue?
Bought coco from a local rural grow shop that has just opened to try to supply the local medical growers.

Some of the supplies in this shop came from overstock and liquidation auctions.

I bought the coco he had that came from such a deal.

I didn't check pH or do a slurry for ec, never have before with prepackaged ready to grow coco.

Well something was wrong with this coco. End up having to pull the clones, rinse the coco, and buffer with a feed. Some damage was done on these 3 that can't be undone.

Thought about trashing them but decided to let them grow.

10 days after the emergency rinse and repot they are perked up somewhat and trying to recover.

This gives me confidence to rinse the rest of the coco and go ahead with using it.

Meanwhile, the plants that had been waiting for new coco or me to decide to rinse and use the other have grown and started to flower while still in their 1gal transplant pots. Time to get in gear and get them transplanted.20220331_141132.jpg20220331_141325.jpg20220331_141239.jpg

As far as the flowering, it was not planned.

They had been on an 18/6 in their previous area and when they were moved to the bigger tent the timer in there was set for 15/9.

That must have been enough to iniate flowering. The weirdo plant was in there as well and also went to flower with 15/9.

Edit: switched to 12/12 at transplant because weirdo was trying to reveg and the others were already in flower.

This 3 day span was a nightmare.

Have already went through the propane heater thermocouple crapping out causing temps to drop into the 50s in the grow area and turned on the furnace while waiting for a part.

Middle of the coldest below zero night we had so far the furnace fan locked up.

Just humming and heating up. No breaker blows, but the main ends up toast on the lug supporting the furnace.

Grow area drops to upper 20s. Water freezes, toilet freezes, I figure plants are goners.

Took 3 days to get everything back to relatively normal but without as much heat as usual.

Pots are not drying out very quickly at this point. Dropped ec down to .7 til the bottom leaves started to fade then worked back up to 1.5 over a period of a few feedings.

The plants that were in the bad coco and then hit with 26°F temps do not look pretty. Oh, well.

Meanwhile, the clones of one of the taller phenos is still going currently with all their beat up leaves.

As well as the bad coco 3. 20220331_153147.jpg20220331_153507.jpg
These 3 that were started in the bad coco have had zero UV.

They are just fried from being frozen and living in a pH that was way too low for too long

This is the taller pheno clone at 18 weeks to the day since pompoms.

Probably gonna chop and hang these 4 in a day or two.

The other 3 will get cut and hung in a couple days as well.

Edit: Notice the green coming in with new growth since the temperature has been back up in the 60s and 70s

13 Aug 2021 - planted 4 seeds in root plugs, 17w t5 6500k 24hr

15 Aug 2021 - sprouted all 4, mist plugs with weak kelp and water solution to keep moist.

24 Aug 2021 - planted plugs into 1 gal fabric transplant pots with botanicare ready gro moisture mix coco, dust roots and hole with azos and mykos, 2- 45w led shop lights 5000k. 18/6
Feed megacrop 1 part starting at .5 ec working up to 1.0~1.2 ec as growth continues. pH 6.0-6.4

25,27 Sep 2021 - take cuts from each of the 4 seedlings

05 Oct 2021 - plant 3 short pheno clones into 1gal fabric with the botanicare coco, dust with azos, mykos

12 Oct 2021 - plant 4 tall pheno clones into 1gal fabric, botanicare coco, dust with azos, mykos

09 Nov 2021 - transplant 3 clones of short pheno from 1gal to 5 gal, dust with azos, mykos, 70/30 coco perlite of different brand from local shop. 15/9

Moved 4 seed grown mothers and 4 tall pheno clones to bigger area, still 1 gal fabric. 15/9

24 Nov 2021 - pull 3 short pheno clones, rinse and buffer coco,
lesson: always check the medium prior to use.

01 Dec 2021 - 3 short pheno just starting to perk back up but still look yellowish green.

:confused:The 4 moms and other 4 clones all have pompoms at 15/9.

11-13 Dec 2021 - washed and buffered coco, transplanted the 4 moms (original seedlings) to 7 gal fabric, dust with mykos.

Feed megacrop 1part from 1.2 ec up to 1.5 as growth continues. Maintain. ec 1.5 pH 6.0-6.4

30 Dec 2021 - Transplanted remaining clones to 5 gal coco. 4th week since pompoms. (Had to wait for area to open up)

21-23 Jan 2022 - lost heat, breaker burnt, pipes froze, toilet froze, plants somehow survived.

28 Feb 2022 - cut and hung 4 moms

25 Mar 2022 - trimmed 4 moms and put in brown sacks. It smokes in a pipe but too moist for a joint.

31 Mar 2022 - jarred up 4 moms.
Still running the clones, 4 tall pheno down to 10/14. 3 short pheno still 12/12.
